Firstly, split ticketing does not always work. ;)

Having said that, how about trying a split at Dundee?

You say you are totally flexible with times, so...

    31 Aug...
Dep Newcastle 18:43, arr Dundee 21:40. Advance Single = £25.50.
Dep Dundee 22:08, arr Aberdeen 23:20. Advance Single = £6.20.

    2 Sep...
Dep Aberdeen 17.36, arr Dundee 18:52. Advance Single = £9.50.
Dep Dundee 19:30, arr Newcastle 22:41. Advance Single = £19.60.

    Total price = £60.80.

That compares with a Super Off Peak Return from Newcastle to Aberdeen at £85.70.

    More than a 25% saving.

Thanks..I never even considered splitting at Dundee.
It takes a bit of getting your head round and working out which trains stop where.

Think about Megatrain from Waterloo to Exeter.

Your dates don't appear to be available yet, but for the previous week I can see tickets for £6 per person each way.

OOps have i posted this in wrong section??

Hello I want to take my 7 year old son to Hamleys in London.

The nearest station is Oxford Circus, we are thinking of going on Sunday morning and returning in the afternoon, no set times.

Can anyone help with suggesting a cheap way to get there and back please.

We dont have a rail card.

    Many thanks

    Jamie ;)

I've answered in your other post
  • I am in the process of buying tickets for a long journey London Waterloo - Exeter St Davids, and this comes up -

    You have reserved a place
    on this specific service,
    but individual seat
    reservations are not possible.

Does that mean my seats will not be reserved??
    Thanks

Correct - there are no assigned seats.
  • I have used this service before and been able to reserve seats. So will there be no seats left and so we will have to stand for 3 1/2 hours ?? Or do I just try and find seats not stated as reserved once I get on the train.
Is it becasue it is only next week. Sorry for questions but obviuosly I would like to sit down

    The national rail website says:
South West Trains do not offer seat reservations but have quota controlled advance purchase products
If you do have to stand it won't be for the whole 3 1/2 hours - just for the first few stations until the commuters have cleared. If you get there early there should be plenty of seats. They won't all be reserved - indeed probably none will be.
  • Hi, was wondering if there is any split ticketing or cheaper return fare to penzance or redruth. I have a family railcard and myself and daughter going to helston on monday 30th august to friday 3rd september, cheapest fare I can find is £59.20, no matter where I have tried to split the tickets it still comes out dearer, can anyone else help as I have been trying now for over 6 hours.:(

"South West Trains do not operate services with specific seat reservations" (http://www.southwesttrains.co.uk/group-travel.aspx), so as expected it is first come first serve, but boarding at the first station puts you in no worse a position than anyone else (especially if you are at the station 15 minutes early). Sorry, having problems quoting the original message too.

Traveling via Westbury and splitting there, it can be done for £56.10 using Advance Singles.

Remember with Advance Singles you must travel on the booked trains. You need to decide whether the saving of £3 is worth the lack of flexibility.

Getting Off Peak Returns to Exeter St Davids (via Honiton), and using Advance Singles from there to Penzance at £6.40 each way, it can be done for £53.70.

Not great savings, but you have left it a little late.

    Info from East Coast Trains.

Shame that Cardiff won today. ;)
