I split my ticket from St Austell to Bristol at Exeter (staying on same train) and got that at half the price of booking all the way through

Was that a split with walk on tickets or was part of the saving advance singles?

Always helps to know as not all splits are repeatable every time.
  • Doncaster to Southampton.

For August 10th, booking June 12.
    Return ticket = £65

Single to London Zone 1 + Single from London Zone 1 = £33
Megatrain ticket from London to Southampton and back = £1 each way

    Total £35 saving £30

Thanks to dzug1 for the suggested route :T
  • Hi there, has anyone travelled from Liverpool to Guildford, successfully splitting their journey? And if so .... where did you split? I can only get info on a journey which takes me into London and back out again!

Travelling off peak, I've seena advance fares around £70 return for wednesday which isn't bad.

Looking at Off Peak return tickets its £73 via london.

I can't see other routes being cheaper.

Other routes could be to take London Midlands to Birmingham and getting Crosscountry via Reading to Guildford

You don't need to split unless travelling last minute - you can quite easily get advance singles - eg £19 one way in a couple of weeks time

And via London is often quicker and cheaper

This doesn't answer your question Islruth, but are you sure splitting is the way to go?

Picking a couple of midweek dates in July, I can see Advance Singles (via London) for £14.00 each way. As stated above, the cheapest walkup fare is £73.10 (and that's via London too).

    Info from Southern Railway website.
  • Thanks, you're right, I've just spent an hour looking around & have managed to find a good deal NOT splitting !

I just went to book from wellingborough to St Pancras and it had gone up £6 so have been looking at splitting. Got it back down to £26 again splitting into 3. I take it this is ok and legal to do!

Is there a way you can see if its the same train? They are off peak returns so I imagine I can go on any train with them? or am i restricted? Its all too confusing for me!!!

When splitting tickets, the train must stop at the splitting stations (generally speaking, there are some exceptions not applicable here).

You can workout where the train stops from the various journey planners.

    Or look at this timetable.
Or if you mention train times, I'll help.
