Try Megatrain. Could be £5 or less... or more.0 -
Looking to travel from Doncaster to Southampton Central - August 10th, looking to travel anytime before 2pm. Returning on August 13th. Ticket office offers £50 total if I book it now.
Seems quite cheap to me but got relatives that are adamant that I could get it cheaper. Any suggestions are appreciated.0 -

I did Carlisle to Manchester Piccadilly, but split at Preston. Before splitting the cost of a single, bought on the day, with a young person's railcard, was around £29. I'm afraid I can't remember exactly how much I saved by splitting, but I think it may have been around £10-15. Definitely worth a go!0

I assume that's advance singles each way?
That's a good fare, particularly with a Friday return. You might be able to shade a bit off it if you are flexible on times.
Splitting the journey in London and using Megatrain between London and Southampton is almost certainly going to be cheaper though. Snag is you are going to have to book Doncaster London now to get a good price (I can see less than £20 total) and wait for megatrain seats to be released (??6 weeks prior to travel) before buying them. You stand a good chance of £1 each way on megatrain if you book as soon as they come out but do run the very slight risk (and it is very slight) of not being able to get any.
The fallback if that happens is coach London/Soton with National Express or Greyhound
Don't forget to factor in tube fares - you'll get them slightly cheaper if you book Doncaster to London zone 1 rather than Kings Cross.0 -
Hi all,
Anyone got any split ticket ideas for London-Newcastle return? I need to go Friday pm-Sunday pm in July, don't have a YP Railcard anymore (SOB!), and currently it's going to cost me £104.
I technically can afford that, but obviously I'd much rather pay less. I've had a look at split ticketing but can't find anything helpful, but I'm hoping I'm missing something.
Oh, and I don't have a car (live in London, would be madness to keep one) so can't just drive.
Thanks in advance!0 -

Have a look at Peterborough, switching to/from FCC trains there - Grand Central may be another possibility
But Friday/Sundays always difficult0 -
I split my ticket from St Austell to Bristol at Exeter (staying on same train) and got that at half the price of booking all the way through0
