Can anyone find me a better deal before I book?

Leicester to Newcastle, Monday 30th August (bank holiday Monday ) did find 1 cheap ticket but east coast website playing silly beggars and now its vanished

So far got £31 one way - Leics-Sheffield and then Sheffield-Doncaster-Newcastle (on one through £10 ticket) can anyone better this? needs to be leaving fairly early but not too early!

    Thanks in advance :)

    Yes, this is cheaper...

Dep Leicester 06:33, arr Sheffield 08:38. Advance Single = £16.00.
Dep Sheffield 10:24, arr Newcastle 12:47. Advance Single = £10.70.

That second ticket, at least, must be booked via East Coast Trains website to get that price.

But I don't know what "needs to be leaving fairly early but not too early" means. ;)

    edited to add:
Actually, a First Class Advance Single ticket on that same Leicester to Sheffield train is only £13.00.

    So total =£23.70.

i think i'm looking for a miracle, but would love to beat the prices i found so far
    1 Adult, no railcards...
i want to travel 23/07/10- so yes a Friday after 4pm,from Edinburgh to Huntingdon. Then I need to return on the Sunday 25/07/10.
The best I could come up with was 2 singles at £47 each...the return was £107.
I didn't know til yesterday that I was going to do this visit, or I would have looked to book sooner..
ia ppreciate it loads if anyone can give me pointers on how to do this better..
    cheers, k

You could try split ticketing - York and/or Peterborough are the obvious places. No guarantee though

And booking on the East Coast site may get you a discount on that £47 fare.

    That's the walkon price

Buying in advance may be cheaper - for example at the end of July £56 ish return is available

Splitting at Peterborough is another possibility that works some of the time. I'll leave you to look

You could also save a small amount by using Hull Trains or Grand Central between London and Doncaster (£59/60 return) and a normal return ticket between there and Leeds (£18.60) or Wakefield (£12.80) All walkon fares

I'm assuming from the fare you quote you are looking for a day return ticket. It really really does help if you say and not leave us to guess or assume

That fare is to St Pancras using the new HS link

If you use the slower services to Charing Cross or Victoria it's £27.40 each off peak day return. For £3.10 extra you can include unlimited transport within London.

If you leave Dover after 1000 there's a 'superoffpeak' day return for £18.60 each

All these can be bought on the day - there is no point in booking in advance on this route

  • Am planning to go from London to Berwick on tweed on 27th August and back on 28th , 3 adults and 1 child. The best rate I can get now is £248.65 total.

How do I find out where I can get split tickets to bring this price down? Which route?

    Thanks.
