Is there a cheap (return) route from Newcastle upon Tyne to Carshalton Beeches? Going on 05/06/2010, returning the next day (06/06/2010).

Peterborough to Carshalton seemed reasonably cheap as a split, but getting down from here is the expensive part.

2 of us travelling, both got 16-25 railcards.

The main route I've found is:

    08:33
    Newcastle
    11:41
    London Kings Cross
    Train EAST COAST 03h 08

    11:41
    London Kings Cross
    12:23
    London Victoria
    Tube n/a 00h 42

    12:23
    London Victoria
    13:02
    Carshalton Beeches
    Train SOUTHERN 00h 39

But it's about £150 for the pair of us.

    Thanks in advance

Nope hadn't seen it, will teach me to read the thread through. Will see if I can get the cheapo tickets and go the week later instead.

EDIT: No joy unless we leave at 04:30 in the morning! There's a few tickets at 60 for the singles but I presume that's just the standard fare cos once you addon a ticket on the tube + local train to Carshalton it's the same money.

On those dates that trip can be done without splitting for £126.80. Total for both of you return. With railcards. Includes tube.

    Info from East Coast Trains.

    Thanks.

Wonder why The Train Line added £15 onto it then

EDIT: The above fare can only be done if you set off from London after about 6PM, arriving in Newcastle gone midnight?

EDIT2: Sod it might just drive, TomTom route planner reckons 5 hours and 317 miles each way. Averaging 45MPG that should still work out at about £80.

The trainline (and raileasy) charge fees.

Avoid the trainline... avoid the fees. Simple.

    Not completely true.
Dep Carshalton Beeches 18:12, arr Newcastle 23:34. Advance Singles = £63.40.

    Up to you.
Of course that £80 isn't the full cost of the car journey though. E.g. wear and tear.

6 month old car, needs to do more than just my current commute (now 4 miles each way rather than 25). Tend to do one big trip a month so this can be that one. No wonder people are unwilling to give up cars when trains are so costly. That promotion (£9 each way) is a good gesture but less than 12 hours after it started, the routes available were already unfeasible for many. I'm at work at 8am the next day so don't really fancy the late night train in all honesty but thanks for checking :)

Appreciate the sentiment but the car costs me the same in insurance/tax if it just sits on the drive while I take the train, and in terms of wear and tear I'll be ditching it in 2 years, as for a brand new car, it's got too many niggly points that the dealer refuses to acknowledge. I had more confidence in the 15 year old 306 that I ditched to get this on the scrappage, and that was well and truly on its last legs.

    Hi everyone,

sorry if this isn't the right place to post this.

I am looking to book up a ticket to go up to Edinburgh from London Kings X on the 3rd August, returning 8th August.

Unfortunately, I only just saw the £9 offer from EastCoast this morning!

Could anyone give me any advice on how to get as cheap a deal as possible? i.e. if it is worth splitting tickets and where to try?

Thanks all in advance for your help!

Hi Trying to find cheap train tickets at peak time for Bristol - London London to Bristol.

Ive tried spliting at Didcott Parkway which is a bit cheaper on the way but more expensive on the way back. Is this the cheapest way to do it? Can't get the coach because won't get me there on time, so train is the only option.

Any ideas?? The dates are 5th July (get in to London by 09:00 at the latest) -6th July (COMMING BACK AFTER 19:00)and 16th Aug Just for the day in by 09:15 back after 19:00.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
