Try Megatrain from Waterloo.
Ok, you have to get to Waterloo first, but the saving will cover that.
Megatrain tickets are not yet available for your dates, but 1st - 4th May your group could travel out for £22 and back for £18.
Alternatively, get a Family and Friends Railcard. Your £45 fare reduces to £27.20. More than covering the cost of the Railcard.
Does anyone have any ideas how far in advance the mega train goes on sale as that is looking like the best option.
When ever I try to split the cost it makes it more expensive!0 -

As you want to travel at a bank holiday weekend, the cheapest tickets may disappear quite quickly.
If you want the best prices, you have to put in a bit of effort.0 -

When ever I try to split the cost it makes it more expensive!
It used to be about 6 weeks (??45 days) but these days it's variable
And yes - split ticketing generally is more expensive - it's an anomaly where it isn't0 -
Hello - desperate girl in love here.
Need to go see the boy, but can't work out the cheapest way to do it, buses seem to not link up well, or take (honestly) around 6 hours.
I need to get from Chichester, West Sussex to Egham, Surrey - as soon as possible really!!
No rail cards sadly
Thank you SO much if you can help me0 -

An Anytime Single from Clapham Junc to Egham is £6.90.
I know you said "as soon as possible", but you must book the Advance Single tickets the day before travel, so the earliest you can go at that price is Friday.0 -

What dates do you plan to travel?

Ok my head is all in a spin, so can you nice guys check this for me. my idea is to split my tickets at Sheffield and York to get to Scarborough,
(Traveling 2/4/10 - outbound)
Derby -Sheffield - £6 getting the 10.11 from derby gets to Sheffield @10.46
Sheffield -York £6.50. 10.54 from Sheffield -York @11.46 ( I think this is the same train I get from Derby to Sheffield, so can I just stay on it at Sheffield?)
York - Scarborough - £6.50 departing at @12.38. I have to come back to York on the Tues, so cos of strike will get bus.
(homebound 10/4/10)
York - sheffield £5.00 departs@ 9.45 arrive - 10.51
Sheffield -Derby £8.40 - departs @10.54 - arrive 11.26
Hope that makes some sense `:):j £2 coins = £2.00 :j0 -
Travel via Birmingham New Street and split tickets there.
Evesham to Birmingham New Street, Off Peak Return = £13.70.
Birmingham NS to Wrexham General, Off Peak Day Single = £12.70.
Wrexham General to Birmingham NS, Off Peak Day Single = £12.70.
Total = £39.10. Saving = £6.40.
Not sure why a Off Peak Return from Birmingham NS to Wrexham General is £26.70, but even using that saves you £4.10.
All these are available on the day.
Details from East Coast Trains.
Are you eligible for a railcard?
Given the number of trips you make, you will easily save the cost.
This is wonderful. Thank you so much for your help.0 -

It's not really a route for split ticketing - cheap advance singles are your best bet.
Also try megatrain - currently between £12 and £17 a head return for your journey0
