Crewe to Reading - £61 single with a change in Wolverhampton.
Crewe to Wolverhampton - £14.70 single
Wolverhampton to Reading - don't get off it's the same train!! - £11 single
So save £35.30 (58%) with split ticketing.
And even better - Crewe to Stafford - £8.20 then Stafford to Reading £14.50. Only £22.70 this time - 63% saving. Though you do have to wait 14 minutes for the connection you could use the extra £3 saved in the buffet car.
If only you could get split sandwiches and split coffees as well!0 -

Spilt coffee maybe?:)
Are these walk on tickets? In which case the saving is always available. Or advance ones, in which case they will not always be available and can vary from day to day and train to train.
Always helps to say - then you won't get complaints of 'I couldn't find that fare:mad:'0 -
Hi,
Travelling from Cambridge to Leeds on May 3rd returning on May 4th two adults both with young persons railcard. I have found it for £48.30 on NXEC and was wondering if there was a cheaper way, it was less about a week ago when I looked.0 -

You are however restricted to one train out...
leave Cambridge at 06:35, Advance Singles = £21.20.
There are several return trains where Advance Singles = £13.30.
Must book via East Coast Trains to get these prices.0 -
What is Megatrain please? I've heard of Megabus. Would they beat East Coast fares? Do they operate on all routes?
I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

It's another way of booking cheap advance tickets. They operate on very few routes. South West Trains, Virgin and East Midlands from memory. You can find a map on their website.

They don't operate on the East Coast mainline.0 -

I'm a little early at the moment, but I am going to Glastonbury in June and I'm looking for some advice and help on train tickets to get there. I will be going from Thornaby to Castle Cary, travelling on Tues 22nd June and returning Tues 28th June to avoid the majority of travellers who will be doing the same journey. At the moment it's looking like it will cost me £118 return, but of course I would like to save money on this if at all possible.
Thanks in advanceI'm an MSE winner!
2x tickets to the o2 Wireless Festival :j
Summer Sports Set - trampoline, swingball and paddling pool worth £100 :T0 -

At the moment yes it will cost you £118 return
If you turn up at Thornaby station on 22 June and buy then it will also cost you £118 return.
But if you wait for the cheap tickets to be released (another 3 or 4 weeks I would guess) you may get it considerably cheaper.
For example on similar dates in mid May £70 return is easily acheiveable0
