Hi, any tips on bringing this one down.

it X country from Cheltenham all the way, but possible to go east coast from leeds upwards?

    Thanks

    Brian

You can't use EC to go from Leeds to Darlington, you'd have to go via Doncaster and that would put your prices up.

I'd look first at Cheltenham Spa - Paddington and then King's Cross - Darlington. Book in a month or so and you should get KGX-DAR for £14.50 each, one way so £58 return, then £9 each, one way from Chelt - Pad = £76 for both of you, return, even without the forces card.

First class is a ridiculous option if the only reason is golf clubs - just speak to the guard and you'll be able to put them in the guard's van (with the bikes and other massive suitcases).

Don't forget to add in the cross London transfer for the both of you whether its the Underground, bus or Taxi

If you buy your underground fare as part of your Cheltenham - London ticket it saves £1 each way over buying a separate underground ticket

Typical advance single from Birmingham New Street to Camborne, Cornwall (far far west) £77.50.
Split the ticket 3 times, @ cheltenham spa, Exeter st Davids, and plymouth. this gave us 4 tickets but only came to £47.30 a saving of £30!!

bedford-skipton split at sheffield. £31 instead of £63! plus the second half is on open day ticket (anytime), so if train 1 is delayed the second ticket will still be valid!

Anytime Day Single from Charlton to Euston is £12.05 (total for all five of you).
Then a Off Peak Return from Euston to Milton Keynes, valid on London Midland Trains only, is £37.70 (again, for all five).
Another Anytime Day Single from Euston to Charlton brings the total to £61.80... a small saving.

Alternatively, can you get to Woolwich Arsenal DLR station?
    Do you have Oyster cards?
Don't know children's ages, but an Adult Single off peak Oyster fare Woolwich Arsenal DLR to Euston is £2.20 (or £2.80 peak). For a child aged 5-10 its free and a child 11-15 its £0.55 at anytime (those are Oyster fares of course).
So, depending on ages, it can cost as little as £6.60 each way Woolwich-Euston,
Making the total trip for all five of you as little as £50.90.
  • Hi can anyone suggest a good place to split/get a cheap deal on the following route

Wed Dec 30th arrive before 17:00

Derby - Manningtree (inc young persons railcard)

Cheapest I have found is £28.70 which is an anytime single.

    Thanks in advance!

Anytime Single with railcard Derby to Peterborough = £12.20
Advance Singles are available from Peterborough to Manningtree on the 11:45, 13:45 and 17:45 departures for £5.30 with Railcard. (£5.30 for a train journey of over two hours is a bargain!)

So total trip price = £17.50.

    My reply:

Good find, Uphill Skier. Well done!

Based on that, the Derby to London ticket can be reduced even further by booking through East Midland Trains... down to £7.90.
