Hi,
I want to travel on 7th Dec, arriving around lunchtime and return on 11th, arriving afternoon/evening. We're actually going from Beeston to Lowestoft but since the main leg of the journey is nottingham to norwich, was wondering what the cheapest I might get is? The entire journeys standard cost is £56 each, which would end up costing us £100+ since there are 2 of us travelling.
The cheapest I have found so far is a single from Notts to Norwich at £15 from Raileasy (which lets me travel at peak time - I want to get to Lowestoft as early as possible), plus roughly £1.60 from Bee to Notts and £5.50 from Norwich to Lowe.
Then going back (not fussed what time we leave) £10 from Nor to Notts (megatrain) plus £5.50 & £1.60.
It works out at £40 roughly each but thats still £80 in total and a lot of money. We used to go via national express as this was much cheaper but we have a toddler now and cant see him sitting still for a 5 hour journey without his buggy pinning him down!:eek:
7Dec
Anytime Day Single Beeston to Nottingham = £3.10 for the three of you with F&F Railcard.
Advance Single Nottingham to Norwich = £22.65 for the three of you with F&F Railcard.
Anytime Day Single Norwich to Lowestoft = £8.45 for the three of you with F&F Railcard.
11Dec
Anytime Day Single Lowestoft to Norwich = £8.45 for the three of you with F&F Railcard.
Megatrain from Norwich to Nottingham = £10.00 per adult.
Anytime Day Single Nottingham to Beeston = £3.10 for the three of you with F&F Railcard.
So the total reduces to £54.20.
Ok, you need to buy a railcard. Full price is £26.00 but discounts are available.
Info from East Coast Trains (except the Megatrain bit).
Oh, and don't buy from Raileasy... avoid their charges. Buy from any of the train operators instead.
Edited to add...
Get a 20% discount on F&F Railcard (down to £20.80) by using promotion code East20 at this website.
Edited a second time to add...
By buying the Advance Singles from East Midlands Trains, the fare reduces to £21.15.
(May as well buy other tickets here too)0 -
I know it's a long shot, but....Bedford to Bath return for this Saturday (28th Nov). Arriving around 11:30-1 would be ideal, then leaving some time after 5:30, prefereably ASAP.
Everything I'm finding now seems to be so expensive0 -
Oh this is with a 16-25 railcard too
Bedford -> Bath = £42.90
I think the best I got was:
Bedford -> Paddington = £12.85 return
London Paddington -> Bath Spa = 2 singles, £15.40 there, £12.50 back
I think that's the best I'm going to get, I tried Harlington/Didcot and a few others but they were more in the end. Short notice football!
Thanks0 -

You had a similar query in mid-Oct, and I think you got some good feedback then.
Using the previous info will probably get you the best deal.

You can get it down to £52.20 using Advance singles a saving of £13 from a Super Off Peak Return, however, your restricted to certain trains and have to travel very early. The Super Off Peak Return gives you more options and less restrictions and is therefore better value.
You could try spliting at one or more of the following to lower the price;
Reading, Swindon or WestburyWhoa! This image violates our terms of use and has been removed from view0 -

A slight saving on your outward fare - £13.85 advance single on the 0920 Waterloo (yes) to Bath - to find it specify via Salisbury.
Your Bedford/Paddington is presumably zone 1, not specifically Paddington, so that shouldn't be a bother.
You can do better (£35 total) on through advance tickets but only by leaving VERY early (0440 I think it was)0 -
LoL, he doesn't also in his orginal post mention that he had a 16-25 railcard which might of helped a little.
Edit: my quote now £65 down to £42.90 with Railcard which the OP already knowsWhoa! This image violates our terms of use and has been removed from view0 -
You seem to have found the best fares, but have you considered a Family and Friends Railcard?

Wow, you guys are impressive, thank you!! :money:
Just one question on the F&F. It says on the site we need one child, aged 5-15. Sadly my toddler is 1, so he doesnt cost us in train fare but he also doesnt save us any by having a card - well, not unless I've missed something0 -
