  • Hi,

Can anyone help me find the cheapest way of getting from Cambridge to Yeovil (either station) on Saturday 7th Nov returning Sunday 8th Nov?

2 adults, 2 young persons railcards. I can't seem to find anything less than about £80 unless I get about 3 coaches and I need to be there by around 5-6pm.

    Thanks

Is that two adults who both have a railcard, or two adults and two others with railcard?

Ok, lets assume thats two people who both have a railcard.

The best train fare appears to be £96.40 Super Off Peak Return Cambridge to Yeovil Pen Mill.. Thats for two with railcards.

National Express coaches seem to be much the same.

Okay, so this may be from specialist knowledge on my part, having lived in the area, but if you get the train to London, there is a coach from London to Yeovil run by Berry's Coaches that costs only about £12 - 18 at most. Which brings you up to about £64 if you're referring to two people with young persons' railcards and it is 12. Otherwise, £76, but I think that is about as cheap as you're going to get it.

  • Hello! After a bum numbing experience with Megabus (the toilets alone are something to put you off) I was looking into a split ticket route for the Chichester/Portsmouth area to Manchester, leaving the 23rd Dec (has to be after 4pm) and returning 28th Dec (anytime)

    Anyone got any ideas?

    Portsmouth to Manchester you could try spliting at one of the following;
London, Newport(South Wales), Leeds, Sheffield, Birmingham NS or Wolverhampton

Has a quick look for direct Advance singles and theres some cheap ones for your return journey on the 28th setting off at around 0700 for £16.50

You just need to find the best split for your outward journey, look at the best priced advance singles and give yourself plenty of time to make your connection (30-45 min)

I don't think you will beat Livingthedream's suggestion for the return leg.

For the outward trip, you could consider the Southern Daysave ticket which will get you as far as Milton Keynes for £10.00. You must travel on Southern Trains only though, and prebook via Southern's website.
You could leave Portsmouth Harbour at 17:12 (Chichester at 17:43), and arrive Milton Keynes at 21:01. Just one change at Clapham Junction.
Dep Milton Keynes 21:31, arr Mancester Pic. 23:11. Advance Single £22.00.

  • HELP!

I've been trying to work this out but my brain is starting to melt! I am looking for the best/cheapest way to travel from Ely to Glasgow (Either Central Glasgow or Barrhead (my final destination)). Travelling either Thursday 10th December or Friday 11th December and returning Sunday 13th/Monday 14th. Everything I check seems to charge much more for the return leg?

I'm really not sure how the rail companies come up with their fares. Just found that a single from Tottenham Hale to London Liverpool Street is £4.10 but a single from Tottenham Hale to Stratford via Liverpool Street is only £3.20. Dread to think how many times over the years I've been robbed.

    Thanks.
  • Hi,
I want to travel on 7th Dec, arriving around lunchtime and return on 11th, arriving afternoon/evening. We're actually going from Beeston to Lowestoft but since the main leg of the journey is nottingham to norwich, was wondering what the cheapest I might get is? The entire journeys standard cost is £56 each, which would end up costing us £100+ since there are 2 of us travelling.
The cheapest I have found so far is a single from Notts to Norwich at £15 from Raileasy (which lets me travel at peak time - I want to get to Lowestoft as early as possible), plus roughly £1.60 from Bee to Notts and £5.50 from Norwich to Lowe.
Then going back (not fussed what time we leave) £10 from Nor to Notts (megatrain) plus £5.50 & £1.60.
It works out at £40 roughly each but thats still £80 in total and a lot of money. We used to go via national express as this was much cheaper but we have a toddler now and cant see him sitting still for a 5 hour journey without his buggy pinning him down!
