Have been trying to 'split' for hours and I'm so confused
Looking for 2 tickets london-manchester 20th-22nd Nov, I think cheapest was about £50 each so if anyone can help I'd really appreciate it!
Or if you don't mind a longer journey, there are £7.00 Advance Singles from Euston to Stoke on Trent valid on London Midland Trains only, in either direction on your dates.
Advance Singles from Stoke to Mancester are available for £7.50 or less each way.
So it can be done for £23 return per person.
All this info from NXEC website.0 -

I want to arrive in plymouth about 2pm on friday 27th november & depart plymouth about 12ish on saturday 28th november.
I can depart from woking, clandon or guildford stations.
I've been flicking between raileasy, first great western, trainline, nat exprss etc etc & the cheapest i get is £77 return - are there any experts who could tell me how or where to split ticket.
I think the woking-plym trains go via exeter & the guildford-ply ones go via Reading.
i dont have a railcard & dont think i'm eligible for any of them- not old or student !
help much appreciated
thankstango
Dep Guildford 08:37, arr Plymouth 12:25, via Reading. Advance Single =£24.95.
28Nov...
Dep Plymouth 12:54, arr Guildford 16:47, via Reading. Advance Single =£19.50.
These fares only available at the First Great Western website.
I don't think you will beat that price by splitting... but happy to be proved wrong.

Thank you KeithP! It's so much simpler when someone else explains it

I'm a bit confuse with splitting this as it goes through London... should I split through London?
also I am a student with a railcard so I cannot travel at peak times
appreciate any help thanks0 -

Try it. If it makes the price cheaper, thats good.
Don't forget though, if you split at London you will have to pay any cross London fare seperately.0 -
I need to get a return between Lancaster and Cheltenham this Friday, coming back Sunday the 8th. It's short notice, and I know that to get the best fares, I should have booked it weeks ago. But I've only just found out I need to go. So, cheapest I've found (with a YP railcard) is £35 something, going via Birmingham NS and Manchester Picadilly.
Is there any way I can get it cheaper? (I'm more skint than seems logically possible)
Thanks.0 -

Thanks.
£48.85 is the Off peak walk on fare so spliting via Birmingham and Manchester brings it down to £35 thats a good £13 saving, I would think with this amount of notice thats going to be hard to beat.
If you've got any advance singles in your split just make sure you give yourself plenty of time to make your connections.Whoa! This image violates our terms of use and has been removed from view0 -

Yes you CAN travel at peak times. What there is is a minimum fare which may make it no cheaper, but there's no restriction as such
Splitting through London can be unwise as suburban journeys often have no cheap tickets but it does vary
In your case it may be worth looking at Chiltern e-tickets for the Marylebone - High Wycombe leg http://ticketing.chilternrailways.co.uk/
These won't be available on national sites.0 -
I have just found out that I can save £242 each month when traveling to work in reading from Westbury
this is by splitting the season tickets down and getting one from Westbury to pewsey =£112 then another one from pewsey to reading £223 total = £335 per month
previous price of a season ticket from Westbury to reading = £577!
Amazing stuff! I urge you all to try this if you haven't already!
all the best :beer:0 -

:T but remember the train must call at Pewsey - nearly all do but don't get caught out on the odd exception
And you can't travel via Swindon or Bath which I think you can with a through ticket0
