EON Saveonline 3 & Saveonline 9

with only edf left to put up prices my advice to anyone looking to fix is to get on their fixed to 2014 rate sharpish and before they announce their rises. on that day they are certain to close the fixed to 2014 rate and announce a new fixed rate at a higher price. I was on eon's variable energyonline dual fuel and switched to their fixed 5 rate to july 2013 a few days before they announced their increases, in anticipation that fixed 5 would be withdrawn on the day of announcing their increases. sure enough it was and replaced by a new higher fixed rate.
edf 's whole page adverts warn their fixed to 2014 rate will be withdrawn soon. I could have changed to it of course but chose to stay with eon because of the tales I was hearing about edf's customer service, the ease of changing my tariff with eon and the attraction of fixing for two instead of three years. additionally the price difference per year between eon fixed price 5 2013 and edf fixed 2014 was only 0.1% in favour of edf.
the whole energy charging scene is too complicated and ofgem have to act in the public interest.
Not to mention their whopping £70 cancellation fee for that tariff.
Fixed 2012 is also another possibility, as it will also be slighter cheaper for most, and a lower cancellation fee of £50.
I cant believe edf fixed saver v2 has been pulled while I've been faffing around trying to decide whether to switch or stick with eon! Does anyone know when the plug was pulled on it?0 -
Just switched from SO4 to SO9, was working out cheapest now EDF have pulled the fixed 12 month plan. Always been happy with their service, although admittedly I've never needed any problems I've needed resolving. If they put the prices up I'll just look around again!0

Received my switch confirmation through post today from Eon. My switch has definitely been post dated until 13th Sept. I checked my prices against those posted on #3 and mine are slightly cheaper. Saving me another £45. My written confirmation prices are:
Normal units up to 900 kWhs per year
22.6485 pence
Normal units
9.975 pence per kWh
Gas
Normal units up to 2680 kWhs per year
7.20195 pence
Normal units
3.0324 pence per kWh
I also have 14 days to change my mind.:wave:0 -
Sorry to be pedantic here but there appears to be a lack of transparency on the pricing. I am waiting for a call back from Eon following my querying of this on Saturday.
As I said on the phone there should be one standard price. By tying into a contract, both sides usually benefit. In this case a customer is rewarded via a discount and the business can be reasonably assured of continuing business.
Neither you nor the gentleman I spoke to have yet managed to explain how or why Save 9 is cheaper than my current Save 3. The cynic in me feels that these initial unit prices for Save 9 are to tempt us in, before you hit us with a realignment back to 2% less than standard.
I'll see if I get a callback as it'll be easier to discuss on the phone.
Thanks anyhow Helena.
Been away for a few days so not been able to post. Surprise surprise, I've had no call from Eon.
I'm almost certain that this tariff is to get us onboard and then the prices will revert to their 2% below standard.
Eon Reps - where are you???????0 -
Currently on SOL3 too and looking to switch to SOL9, if it's still available???
Ok, I'm even more confused now as looking at my account it appears SOL9 is actually more expensive?!
Electric:
< 900kWhs SOL3 19.803 SOL9 21.4935
normal rate SOL3 11.5815 SOL9 10.0905
Gas:
< 2680kWhs SOL3 6.6003 SOL9 7.31325
normal rate SOL3 3.19515 SOL9 3.0954“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -

Had a closer look, and SaveOnline 3 does not have an "online discount", like you say. Traditionally, the online tariffs usually had what E.On called an "online discount", which is supposedly to be an bribe so they don't have to snailmail statements to you. You always pay less than standard tariff, but they started playing with the Tier 1 and 2 rates as well, so it was possible to be paying less even though you had no "online discount". The discount is in the Tier 1 & 2 rate itself.
In any case, the prices you listed are from 14th September. The Tier 1 & 2 rates you are paying right now on SaveOnline 3 is much cheaper than SaveOnline 9.
All change on 14th September, when SOL 9 will stay put, and all the previous SaveOnline tariffs go up.0 -

Now you've totally lost me!! The discount I'm referring to are the DD & dual fuel discounts which equally apply to both tariffs. And yes, the prices I quoted are the new prices as there's no point comparing to current prices!!“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0
