EON Saveonline 3 & Saveonline 9

Maybe it's just my hangover but can anyone tell me why Saveonline 9 is cheaper than Saveonline 3 when version 3 gives a 6% discount on standard prices and version 9 gives a 2% discount?

I'm currently on version 3 which admittedly runs out in Nov and according to the comparison site I should move to EDF Saver 12, but the saving is only £50 compared to Eon version 9 so I might just stay with EON.

I'm quite good at maths but that doesn't add up, am I missing something?

Thanks in advance.

Wondered the same thing myself. Looks like some of the comparison sites (I was using EnergyHelpline) may be using POST increase tariffs for SaveOnline 2 to 8 but PRE increase tariff for the new SaveOnline 9. Haven't had this confirmed froem Eon as yet though, but I can't imagine there being another explanation.

Sorry, should have said, the EON site says the same thing.

    Saveonline 3

    Electricity
Normal units up to 900 kWhs per year
    22.0815 pence

    Normal units
    12.642 pence per kWh

    Gas
Normal units up to 2680 kWhs per year
    7.3437 pence

    Normal units
    3.19515 pence per kWh

6% cheaper than our standard energy prices. These details are effective from 13/09/2011. You will be billed at the current rate for this product until then.

    Saveonline 9

    Electricity
Normal units up to 900 kWhs per year
    21.5355 pence

    Normal units
    10.689 pence per kWh

    Gas
Normal units up to 2680 kWhs per year
    7.31325 pence

    Normal units
    3.11745 pence per kWh

With E.ON SaveOnline 9 for next 12 months your prices will always be at least 2% cheaper than our standard E.ON EnergyPlan prices as at 13 September 2011. So whilst your E.ON SaveOnline 9 prices can change at any time, you'll always know that you're saving.

Both give 6% DD discount and 2% Duel fuel.

I think the notes under each tariff are the important thing to look at. For SaveOnline 3, it says the prices are effective FROM 13th September, whereas this is not stated under SaveOnline 9.

Although it does say that SaveOnline 9 prices will be 2% cheaper from 13th Sept, I think the prices given here are as they stand from today UNTIL the date of the increase.

    Just my theory though!

    Just spoken to them.

He kept saying that there are different unit rates but that doesn't explain the discrepency.

He accepted that there was one standard price and that the prices quoted above are both FROM 13/09.

Now there are either different starting points, i.e. different standard rates or the prices are wrong.

Location is not a variable here as the issue is based on my location.

I've asked for it to be escalated. Will update when they get back to me.

I was told on two separate occasions that Save Online 9 was not going up on the 13th September and I was not going to be charged a cancellation fee for moving from my present Save Online 8. This saves me £167. a year.

    Hi Guys,

The Saveonline 9 prices announced last Friday will not be changing on 13 September 2011.

However, Saveonline 3 prices will change on this date in accordance with our price increase also announced on Friday.

Just a quick heads up; the 6%/2% terms applicable to these tariffs are not additional discounts. They're an assurance that prices will be at least this percentage cheaper than our standard rates throughout the length of the agreement.

Discounts on both versions of this tariff are 8% for dual fuel and 6% for electric only.

    Thanks for that Helena.

    Can you clarify:

    (1) Saveonline 9 is cheaper than Saveonline 3 - from the 13th Sept? This is despite the T&C assuring Saveonline 3 will be at least 6% cheaper than standard as opposed to at least 2% cheaper on Saveonline 9.

    (2) What benefits would I lose of I moved to Saveonline 9 on the 13th Sept as opposed to letting Saveonline 3 run its course until Nov?

    (3) Under what circumstances can you revert the current discounts being applied to Saveonline 9, which are significantly in excess of 2%, back to the minimum 2%? I.e, is this just to tempt customers in before prices revert back to the maximum allowed?

    Thanks in advance

Saveonline 9 prices might not be changing on 13 September, but I'd be very surprised if they don't increase before this winter.

    Hi JSF23,

SaveOnline 9 is cheaper than some of the existing SaveOnline tariffs. SaveOnline 9 will not increase in September where as the other SaveOnline tariff’s will increase.

The 6%/2% terms applicable to these tariffs are not additional discounts. They're an assurance that prices will be at least this percentage cheaper than our standard rates throughout the length of the agreement.

If you stayed on SaveOnline 3 until the end date, I don't know what tariff's will be available at this time. I can't say for sure if we will still be offering SaveOnline 9.

The discounts for SaveOnline 3 up to SaveOnline 9 are the same, A total of 8% for duel fuel, paying by monthly Direct Debit.

    Hope this helps.

Sorry to be pedantic here but there appears to be a lack of transparency on the pricing. I am waiting for a call back from Eon following my querying of this on Saturday.

As I said on the phone there should be one standard price. By tying into a contract, both sides usually benefit. In this case a customer is rewarded via a discount and the business can be reasonably assured of continuing business.

Neither you nor the gentleman I spoke to have yet managed to explain how or why Save 9 is cheaper than my current Save 3. The cynic in me feels that these initial unit prices for Save 9 are to tempt us in, before you hit us with a realignment back to 2% less than standard.

I'll see if I get a callback as it'll be easier to discuss on the phone.

    Thanks anyhow Helena.
