I switched to SOL v9 on the 13th August and have today received my confirmation by post from EON and I can confirm that the prices are the same as when I made the change online.

As at the time of this post, SOL v9 is also still available on the EON website.

One thing to note is that the change is not post-dated (and I didn't think it would be). One other point to note is that the confirmation letter states to let EON know "within the next 14 days if you change your mind about this plan", so if a better deal comes out within a fortnight you can still change to that.
  • Unable to access Eon switch service or my account as at the time of this message.
Was going to switch to SOL v9
Will be interesting to see if SOL V9 is still available in its original form when website becomes available. Who's calling who cynical!!!

Just logged in and SOL 9 was one of the options I could switch to.

I may be wrong, but I thought there was a £30 early termination fee with SOL 9. I couldn't see that mentioned anywhere.

Perhaps they have removed it in light of the letter they got from OFGEM http://www.ofgem.gov.uk/MARKETS/RETMKTS/COMPL/PRICECHANGE/Documents1/Guidance%20letter%20on%20SLC%2023.pdf :T

I hope someone gives you a good answer to this. I am very anti-cold calling. But I must say that I have never been cold called (at the door) by Eon, I didn't think they did this. More chance that he is working for some agency.

Please be very careful with this, I have had some bad experiences, including two N.Power cold callers barging into my house while I was in the bath, claiming the government had given them permission to take note of my meter serial numbers. Also my mother-in-law being cold called twice, saying NO, and still being changed over. Afraid no cold caller would ever get past my door these days.

with only edf left to put up prices my advice to anyone looking to fix is to get on their fixed to 2014 rate sharpish and before they announce their rises. on that day they are certain to close the fixed to 2014 rate and announce a new fixed rate at a higher price. I was on eon's variable energyonline dual fuel and switched to their fixed 5 rate to july 2013 a few days before they announced their increases, in anticipation that fixed 5 would be withdrawn on the day of announcing their increases. sure enough it was and replaced by a new higher fixed rate.

edf 's whole page adverts warn their fixed to 2014 rate will be withdrawn soon. I could have changed to it of course but chose to stay with eon because of the tales I was hearing about edf's customer service, the ease of changing my tariff with eon and the attraction of fixing for two instead of three years. additionally the price difference per year between eon fixed price 5 2013 and edf fixed 2014 was only 0.1% in favour of edf.

the whole energy charging scene is too complicated and ofgem have to act in the public interest.
