Seriously, who wants to jobsearch on holiday? You can do online but that isn't covering every aspect of job searching is it!
you have to do 3 things. so looking online once and sending a couple of spec applications via email is all you need to do to avoid commiting fraud. that maybe not enough in your opinion but as people like to remind me its the rules that count.

of course when people are away they arent likely to do jobsearch. however part of why the rule exists is because it is assuming being abroad means people cant do jobsearch. that is clearly not true. if someone goes away for 2 weeks and doesnt do any jobsearch then technically they are breaking their agreement(assuming the agreement allowed people to go abroad of course). however many people do nothing for a whole 2 weeks while at home. so it isnt an argument for keeping people at home.

Well I assume you can only really speak for yourself...!!:rotfl:

there are a number of ways the holiday can be afforded and still not mean they can afford to lose jsa. however thats not the real point here. the point is should people be allowed a break.

No, the point is....should people be able to claim a job seeking benefit which includes being available for interviews at the drop of a hat while being on holiday OUT OF THE COUNTRY where it would seem attending an interview would be very difficult!!

You may only do the 'minimum' but those who want to work do a lot more, believe me;)

You never know when an interview will crop up, as you say they are rare it would be a shame to miss out on the opportunity if it arises!
this is true but it would be a shame to miss out. however the liklihood is so small that going away really doesnt cause any harm to a persons job prospects. if someone is likely to get an interview then that means they are in demand and would probably get a job very quickly. so the holiday issue wouldnt arise because they would be in work when they take their holiday.

You can holiday in the UK without having to sign off and here is a tip, don't go anywhere too remote...problem solved!
going somewhere remote in the uk isnt a problem because the rules allow it. however there is a problem with going to dublin even though you could be home within 2 to 3 hours. this includes travel to airport, buying tickets, flight time etc.

If job interviews are so rare then it would be in your best interest to remain in the UK (in a not so remote place) so that you are always available because you never know if or when.

What I actually said was "My OH is self employed and he doesn't get paid when we go on holiday, so we have to save enough to cover the loss of a week's earnings as well as everything else. Why shouldn't you?"

That means, he doesn't get paid while we're on holiday so we save to cover it. Why shouldn't a person on JSA do the same thing that every self-employed person has to do?

How much, exactly, is one week's JSA? Is it likely to be less than the money a person would spend while on holiday?
because the unemployed person didnt choose to be unemployed but your husband chose to be self employed knowing that meant no holiday pay.
as far as spending goes it really does depend on the holiday. it is also possible that someone else could be covering the spending costs. whether someone can afford to go away has nothing to do with whether they should be allowed to have a break away.

Well "potentially" you could come back from Timbuktu with a job, but if your local DWP office phoned you for an interview in Little Snodbury and you couldn't make it you'd still lose your JSA!
they never phone people thats the point. if they did then people wouldnt go away.
