And nobody is saying you can't go on holiday abroad, just sign off first!!
now why is that? the first reason given is you cant do jobsearch. me and others have shown that is incorrect.
you cant get back for an interview. the liklihood of an interview clashing is very small and me and other people have shown it can be easier to get back from some locations abroad.
the next one is its the rules. well its been shown its a bo**cks rule and it can easily be got around.0 -

How much is a week's JSA? £65? Yet you think people who couldn't afford to lose that would still go abroad on holiday and, even if "all inclusive", be highly likely to spend at least five times that on all the paraphernalia that being away from home involves. Trips, tips, car hire, souvenirs, drinks & meals away from the holiday complex, watersports, donkey rides... you get the picture.
If I was suddenly out of work and had enough spending money to cover a week's holiday abroad, I doubt I'd become destitute for the lack of £65. And if I would, then I'd scrap the holiday and hang onto my JSA plus what money I would have spent being away. Seemples.I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

The rules state you have to sign off if you holiday abroad...
Seriously, who wants to jobsearch on holiday? You can do online but that isn't covering every aspect of job searching is it!
You never know when an interview will crop up, as you say they are rare it would be a shame to miss out on the opportunity if it arises!
You haven't shown anything, you claim you can get on an plane at the click of your fingers, travel miles from your holiday destination to Calais...all of which cost at least the 2 weeks jsa that you claim you will miss!! If not more!!!
Of course that is all dependent upon available of flights/seats on the flight, cost of travel to Calais...etc.
You can holiday in the UK without having to sign off and here is a tip, don't go anywhere too remote...problem solved!0 -

What I actually said was "My OH is self employed and he doesn't get paid when we go on holiday, so we have to save enough to cover the loss of a week's earnings as well as everything else. Why shouldn't you?"
That means, he doesn't get paid while we're on holiday so we save to cover it. Why shouldn't a person on JSA do the same thing that every self-employed person has to do?
How much, exactly, is one week's JSA? Is it likely to be less than the money a person would spend while on holiday?DMP Mutual Support Thread member 244

Agree with Jomo. Why would you WANT to go on holiday and still jobsearch?? Don't you want a week off from all that hassle??! Isn't that the point of a holiday?! Take £65 out of your spending money and leave it at home - problem solved. You actually think £65 is worth wrecking a week's holiday for?!DMP Mutual Support Thread member 244

Either the person has already saved up money to spend on holiday or they are relying on others to pay for them. Two weeks jsa is really only a drop in the ocean of what it would cost to buy food/drink etc. while on holiday. I really think if they can't afford to do without the jsa money they should not be going on the holiday...0 -
Bogof_Babe wrote: »Maybe they should re-write the rule then. Instead of saying that holidays within the UK are permitted, it could read "holidays within two hours travel time of the DWP office where you are registered". Then the onus is on you to get back within two hours if required to. If you couldn't make it for some reason, no JSA for that week.
Would that be okay?
Someone already posted in the thread saying she is job searching in her local area and in Scotland with a view to relocating there if that's where the job comes up. So I don't think it would work to say 2 hours travel time of registered office, as people do look at other areas - potentially you could come back from holiday with a job from the other area.0 -
