Congratulations on your win victory. Nice one :j

I won £250 today http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=46429521&postcount=419. I'm well chuffed as we spent a lot of money on son's birthday party. Can now put the money back. You can also enter here https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3289148 (ends 4th Sept).

  • Thanks Matryoshka - not so mad really.
Made a choice to join in and even had a small slice of cake.
Up til now, I don't really do diets and enjoy my food to the full.

I seem to have had an epiphany this week tho and am in a really good place with my willpower and have stuck to my detox (except for this one meal) and not even felt hungry. You are right, I won't beat myself up and will continue to take one day at a time.

Best wishes to your DS, hope he had a happy day.:)

hey all, went to the gym for the first time in ages and was really good to be honest. Have also just done my biggest loser game as i have been at my sisters this afternoon for a bbq, where i ate way to much.

Did get brought a big dairy milk today from my ex, but gave it to my mum so i didnt have to eat it.

Added my gym workout earlier but i have forgot to add my walking and now need to add my wii workout.

So another 2 hours 12 to add to the challenge :)

a common myth not stood up by the science, we are not a car simply burning fuel and every trial done on cals in and cals out have shown this is not the case

its what your body does or does not do with the food you eat that counts

Hey I must be an anomaly then because I lost weight by eating less, spooky.

Sorry but in no way can you prove eating less calories than what you need to sustain your BMR will not equate to weight loss.

But please point me to the trials you mention or the explanation of the common myth I am being deceived by.

you are confusing two different things

the myth comes around from the 3500 cals - 1lb so cut 3500 cals and you will loose 1lb, you will not and in 99% of cases no one will, i have a full log of everything i have eaten and expended over the last 18 months and not once has this equation balanced, in fact its never even close

trials consistently show that the human body does not work to an energy in - energy out formula, there have been trials where people have been kept in sealed chambers and there CO2 monitored along with there body waste to exactly monitor what there intake and usage of calories where and it still never matches

the way the body processes food is very complex and the types of "fuel" it uses affects how much of the energy is used, the body does not even process carbs the same, fructose for instance is processed like alcohol which is more akin to a poison

trials have shown for instance that with no insulin present in the blood stream you can eat 5000 cals a day and not put on weight since insulin controls fat storage and the lack of insulin opens up body fat to be used as fuel, you wont loose weight of course but you just loose the ability to store fat

to burn stored body fat you need two things, the fat cells made available to release the fat as fuel (low levels of insulin) and a deficit of energy so that the body makes a demand for that fuel

if you reduce your calorific intake enough on any diet you will eventually reduce your carb intake enough to have at least some periods of low insulin levels and burn stored fat, but in trials where mice had there insulin levels kept near maximum and given unlimited levels of food the mice starved to death but where morbidly obese, the levels of insulin in there blood meant everything they ate was stored as body fat but as the body fat was not available for fuel they had to consume there own lean tissue until they eventually died.

by taking a reduced carb low GI route you are doing everything you can to ensure your body is in optimum fat burning mode by working with your bio chemistry and not against it, you will after a couple of weeks loose all carb cravings, by having a diet higher in protein you will be protecting yourself from lean muscle loss and feeling fuller as protein stimulates the full hormone from the brain, a constant low level of insulin also helps protect against lean muscle loss since fat is available to be used as fuel all the time, and generally you should not be hungry which makes it a very sustainable diet long term

and by low carb we are not talking about atkins style carb avoidance, a low gi / low carb diet sticking in the 60-100g of carbs a day will give you a huge amount of plant intake and some fruit. I avg 500g of plants a day and 1 piece of fruit plus some legumes and still avg 80g of carbs

    Hey Everyone,

Just caught up with the thread...

    Happy birthday Beanie! :j
    Congratulations Matryoshka!
Eric - Loving reading about your quest to find low carb and low cal ice cream! :D

Got back from my hols last night. Was a 180 mile journey, mostly in awful weather, and ended up ordering a chinese when we got back as I couldn't be bothered to make anything :o. I got on the scales today, expecting maybe a 1 to 2 lbs gain... I'd gained 6lbs!!!!!!!!!!!:eek::eek:
So not impressed! I did eat more than usual at mealtimes, but was very active and was really, really hungry by the time I ate each meal so didn't expect it to affect me that much. I also got most of my evening meals from the salad bar, so I'm not too happy about it
I don't think that it's actually a 6lb gain though, I always weigh a lot more after a chinese takeaway, and expect that some of it is just bloating after eating a very different diet (or something like that?) - but I was so shocked and annoyed this morning that I went to Tesco and spent £70 on healthy food! Usually spend around £40 a week so went a bit overboard!!!!

I've been eating a bit better today, but will be very strict with myself from tomorrow onwards. Going for 1400 cals a day, which is a lot less than I need, but not so much less that I risk 'starvation mode'. Feeling really disappointed at the mo so really want to kick-start my weight loss - going to follow all of the 'diet rules' like drinking loads of water, exercising everyday, etc, so will hopefully lose this extra weight in the next couple of weeks... any tips will be appreciated!

Oh and on a positive note... I have 4 hrs 52 mins to add to the challenge. It was actually a lot more but I kept forgetting to time it! About half of that was pushing (but mostly dragging!) a bulky pushchair across a pebbly beach, trying to keep up with my friend and DS1 who were always running ahead! I probably looked ridiculous, but it was a great workout as my shoulders and legs were really aching by the time we got back. Walking against the heavy winds probably helped!
