  • Well it is 4 weeks til my wedding and I would love to lose 4-6 lbs before the day... so I know what I need to do: I haven't eaten pasta for a year and very very little bread and no potatoes more than 1/2 dozen times and virtually no dairy (had cheese sandwich a couple of times in the year and lasgne twice).
But for the next four weeks I will cut out all bread, potatoes, and rice, which I have been eating, and the gluten free oats for porridge I have been eating quite alot of recently and most importantly for me I think, bananas - I eat loads of them, I always have since a child (never ate sweets or puddings a a child, had a banana instead) but I know I eat too many to lose weight effectively. (I will still easily eat 100g of carbs a day)

I will up the daily green shakes I have been having (spinach, cabbage, celery and small amount of apple juice) from 1 pint to 1 litre I think. When i am consistant with the shakes, i always get people telling me in droves whow well I look and they are brilliant for digestion/bowel health.

I already eat most of my veg raw, including kale and greens, wither in smoothies or just as they are.

Victory - so sorry to hear your news, suicie sends deep ripples out and many are affected. very pleasedf to hear you dla news though:T Totally deserved but there are some unjust judges made these days and withthe way things have been going for you and I thought you might have to fight for it. Hope this is the turning point for you.

What is this? some sort of anti-carbohydrate m@fia ?

Bread, potatoes, pasta yum! Calories in less than calories out it's simples, first law of thermodynamics.

LOL, no Occy. Everybodies 'body' is different and I just know my own body in my 40's and the more bread I eat, the more my body craves and then I put on weight. I am at my most energetic and healthy if I cut back on carbs and up the protein.
I also cut out certain foods, incluting gluten, (hence no pasta) to help a severe skin condition and potatoes becasue they are part of the nightshade family and I have severe arthritis and it is recommended to avoid that plant family (tomatoes, aubergines and red peppers as well).
By cutting out pasta, it makes me eat a greater range of more nutricious food in order to fill me up and trebles the amount of veg I eat, so it is good for me.
I am under dr's and since making changes last year and drinking the green smoothies descibe me as 'glowing' and they are very happy with my diet.
I can't take sufficient exercise for health reasons so it is not so easy to balance delicious food with added exercise. And I eat loads of very tasty delicious food..I do not feel 'on a diet'. I've just let things slip the last month or two and ant to get back to my healthy bmi weight back to tip top healthy eating for me.

As you get older, the calories in/out rule doesn't apply so much, as Margaret can testify.

Calories in vs calories out? Oh, would it were that simple! It's not.

I shan't be eating any carbs at all until mid-October. After that I can introduce fruits from anywhere on the planet except for 4. Those 4 are: bananas, grapes, figs and cherries. I'll never be able to eat those again. So what. I didn't even know what a banana looked like until I was 9 or 10. They're not essential for life. Nor are potatoes.

This 'calories in vs calories out' is what many of the diets say: you can have your chocolate so long as you include it in your calorie count. Well, no. Eating chocolate does NOT equate with eating e.g. some grilled steak. Not at all.

a common myth not stood up by the science, we are not a car simply burning fuel and every trial done on cals in and cals out have shown this is not the case

its what your body does or does not do with the food you eat that counts

the general conciousness is 100g of carbs a day or less (all natural slow release carbs as well) is the magic figure, i generally aim for 75g a day sometime i hit 60 sometimes 90, as long as i am roughly there i am happy

not sure on coffee persay, i know caffeine messes up your blood sugar something rotten which is why i avoid all forms of the stuff

i do drink a couple of cups of decaf coffee a day thou, theres some really excellent quality ones about now, nobody who has come to our house has said this is decaf (humans cant taste caffeine)

Thanks for the feedback. Good idea about the decaff, hadn't thought of that. Might be a workable comprimise.

I don't know really. In my case, if I don't exercise, I put on weight. At the moment, I can literally eat what I want (in moderation) provided I exercise daily. Don't get it tbh if calories in is NOT calories out 5.gif
