Back from my prize win at Mark Anthony's :j
http://www.fabulousmag.co.uk/fabmag/_fabulous/nolfabulous_competitions/1352633/Win-a-personal-training-session.html
The personal trainer (not Mark Anthony himself) immediately put me through my paces. Warmed up on the treadmill then went upstairs for some workout - used weights, swiss ball, different machines etc. It was a good workout though not as good as I was expecting (didn't think it was much different from what I see the PT's doing at my gym, fitness first tbh :rotfl:)
Would I pay £150 for the hour? I don't think so :rotfl:It was a s-w-a-n-k-y gym, in an exclusive area etc but there was no one else there but me. I asked why and the PT said it's usually quiet around this time but will pick up again in September. Huh?
I enjoyed the prize though :T:T:T
So, fredsnail, I'm logging 1 hour on to my challenge please. Thanks.SECRET TO WINNING PRIZES:

Someone wrote this on another thread: 'People need carbs. It is the energy your brain uses to function.' - but how many carbs she does not say...
Anyway, I have somehow lost over 2lbs overnight, literally. I don't know what is up with my body right now, or if my scales are just playing silly beggers with me.
I just had a HUGE piece of salmon with tender stem broccoli for my lunch, and I will be having a snack of carrots and hummus before zumba this evening, then chicken stir fry for tea with a portion of noodles that have 34.5g of carbs in them. I also had some greek yogurt at some point.
Thanks for the chart, Fred! :j
Congrats, Occy :T0 -

a common myth spouted by people who do not understand the biochemistry
the human body needs zero carbs to survive, it can quite happily live on fat and a bit of protein many tribal peoples have done this in the recent past, including those living in Alaska, native americans and the Masai, modern distribution of food has made this less necessary in the last hundred years or so.
this is essentially what atkins does it gets the body to switch over to burning fat as the bodies primary fuel which it converts into keytones to fuel the brain. most people get carb flu as they switch over
however you do not need to go so hardcore to loose weight, what most primal / paleo / low carb / low GI diets are attempting to achieve is to keep insulin down to a minimum. and there's good science to do this, elevated insulin levels block the bodies ability to burn fat but also force the body to try to store as much energy as fat as possible, by controlling insulin you should always be at optimum fat burning mode. 60-100g of carbs a day are the sweet spot for this without having to switch the brain over into ketosis.
there's been some interesting research with regard to weight loss and insulin, in mice who had there insulin artificially kept at the maximum level the mice starved to death whilst eating constantly and having massive levels of body fat, they where storing all the energy they ate as fat and had to consume there own lean tissue
another study i stumbled upon recently showed that people with a zero carb intake find it nearly impossible to gain weight if there diet is nearly all fat
so by controlling your insulin levels (to under 100g a day, or less if your smaller) you are giving yourself the best opportunity to loose weight, but it should also steer your diet to something that is more natural for us to eat.
and 100g of carbs a day is a lot if you stick to moistly plants with a little fruit as would our ancestors have done, its about 500g of veg and a couple of apples a day for me, which is a huge amount0 -

It was because i reset myself and started again at some point!
Well done occy!
I am now back from my holiday. 3 days of no stress as the boys were so well behaved, but food was not good. Ice cream every day, and food was bad. Will jump on the scales tomorrow morning to check out the damage.
Got my new wii game through today though so will be trying that out tomorrow.
Can i log 3 hours 10 mins of walking to the challenge please. Never knew walking round the seaside was such hard workPAD Maker0 -

So sorry to hear about your friends husband Victory.45 mins boot camp for me today.
Always fancied trying a boot camp and there has been a few offers on Groupon lately. Might sign up if I see it again - how do you find it Froddo?
Thanks again for all of the information about low carb / insulin Eric. A few friends have asked me lately how I am losing weight. When I tell them I have reduced my carbs they are quite dismissive - telling me it is bad for my health and I won't be able to maintain it. Their main concern seems to be how I am able to live without bread :rotfl: Its good to the reasearch to back up my 'arguments'.
Thanks for the cycle interval training routine Trigirl. I always try to do interval training when I use the treadmill as you seem to get a much better workout (although I am very much a beginner where this is concerned) Would love to try yours but last time I used an excercise bike my 'dodgy knees' were painful for days afterwards.
Thanks for adding me to next weeks chart Fred.
