Wow, well done - did you tell them that you were recording?

To what I remember, it's illegal if you don't declare that calls are being recorded...

In general it is illegal, but under some circumstances you can do it legally as several people have posted here.

The OP had a good result here, but in general I would keep away from it unless you have good legal advice first.

What did you mean by "putting my plan into action"?Did you set out to antagonise the caller? Did you want someone to lose their job?

I know what you are saying.

"Whatever is begun in anger ends in shame.” (George Eliot)

There always is an exception which proves the rule. But it is an exception. Most times it will end in shame.

They're all in the other brigade. The one where the employee got fired in the spot, pigs fly and MSE doesn't have "how can I get out of this contract" posts.;)
Have I helped? Feel free to click the 'Thanks' button. I like to feel useful (and smug). ;)

Looks like you must be a member of the "post on flickr and prove with a picture or it didn't happen brigade" referred to in post #35.
Can't form a brigade on your own, so count me in, old mate.

And me. Have we achieved crowd status yet? :D

There's another anomaly, today he says that he promised (at the time) to let the matter drop. But of course he started a thread about it instead!

It could be that its just phrased badly, but adds to the general confusion and, to be honest, suspicion.

for being a forum thats about discussing money saving and the likes, there sure are a lot of impertinent people who are full of sacrasm and who feel the need to post scurrilous comments to boost there own egos.

Sad to be honest as I posted the thread purely to show what had happened with one Company, and as I then praised the way it was dealt with by the Director in a swift manner I receive a whole lot of defamatory comments from certain individuals who seem to have nothing better to with there time other than trawl this site looking at ways to impress there peers.

I do actualy feel sorry for you as the type of comments posted show how inept you truly are.

If this story is true (which I very much doubt) then the OP has fallen into the usual trap.

The people who are ringing you are trying to get as much info from you to either scam you in some way, sell you some worthless service or, at worst, sell your details on to other scamming firms for a profit.

Whereas before they just had a telephone number and a possible name from a file they've been sold, they now have a CONFIRMED name AND your address - and you probably gave them other clues to your identity and status while you were mouthing off at them.

Not the wisest of actions, I fear - and I don't think for one moment you'll see a cheque - they love passing you on to a supervisor who acts all friendly to you, because then you willingly give him all of the info they were looking for in the first place

I'm surprised that you didn't give them your bank account details so that they could pay the money directly into your account!

???? They already had those details, in order to make the call in the first place.

What do they put in the telephone directory where you live?

I know one technique they use, is to tear a telephone directory into sections, and get dogs bodies on commission only, to work their way through them.
The real problem is, they are now ignoring the TPS lists. (Especially the foreign callers who must get directories sent to them.)
