maybe you could have a look around online and find campsites etc which are on the way home, so you have a definite plan of where you might stop off, and what you might see there, to extend the trip? I have to say, if my OH suggested me driving around on a 3-hour drive to see what took my fancy, I'd be very tempted just to pick the shortest route home and stick to it!

Perhaps he just wants to spend some time at home chilling out before he goes back to work? Not everyone likes to 'do' things on their holidays.

And camping with a very young child is harder work than staying at home, maybe he wants to relax? (I don't know how old your child is). Also not everyone enjoys doing 'kid things' for two weeks.

    Just some suggestions.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

Has he been acting strangely in any other ways recently? I'm just thinking (and sorry to say this) that if there isn't something he wants to rush back for, could there be someone?
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D
