Still undecided as to which we will do, OH wants to see Skywalk I just want to see the Canyon from a good vantage point so will weigh up our options
Make sure you go to the bottom of the canyon, the view from the bottom is far more impressive looking up rather than down, IMO.{Signature removed by Forum Team}0 -
Tango - maybe consider looking into Gold Coast as well...owned by the same group as Orleans...it's next to Rio and across from The Palms - so not quite as isolated as South Point or Orleans as 3 properties very close together...free shuttle to the strip but is probably walkable as well (though I haven't actually done so, it doesn't seem like it's that far - then again NOTHING seems very far in Vegas until you start walking). They do have bowling, but no cinema so that may be a consideration for you with your daughter. Worth looking at rates at least. If you sign up on their website they may send you deals by email as well.
I agree with those who suggest staying on the strip if you can...but I don't think Gold Coast would be a bad option if it saves a good chunk of money as it is a long trip and as you've found, Halloween is a relatively expensive time for Vegas.
As for getting married in Vegas, I never understand why anyone cares what anyone else does for their wedding...it's like people who criticise what others do on their holiday...I just don't get it...Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
oh - and I just want to say again thanks to those who suggested the Post Office credit card...just got back from a non-Vegas trip to the US and charged loads on it...got exchange rates of 2.05-2.06 with no fees at all. Outstanding!Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0

Ok Trets and Ferf
Done a bit of pricing...Flamingo website still not working keeps telling me rooms not available for the promo.so I've given up on it now
Gold coast first 4 days $290
Tropicana 5 days $954....may get that a bit cheaper as there is a promo but the link (https://res.tropicanalv.com/cgi-bin/lansaweb?procfun+rn+resnet+r15+funcparms+UP(A2560):;IEMB807;?)only takes me to a reservation page and wont actually give me a price
Luxor 5 days $838
actually comes to £1026 still a bit more than I wanted to pay I'm still juggling figures to see if I can get it a bit cheaper:hello: LORRAINE :hello:0 -
yeah seem to be good prices on that Tropicanna offer compared to to what others are throwing up.
i liked the vibe at the Tropicanna and the pools ( it has 3 !!) are highly rated, and it,s location is superb. the rooms in the many reviews i have read are why it,s the price it is . the Garden rooms generally get the bad reviews though so the extra $10 a night for a Island room might be a worth while investment. besides which how long to you really intend staying in your room when there is so much to do. the rooms might have a face lift recently i remember hearing somewhere .
try the $20 trick on top and you could be on to a winner  as it ticks a lot of your boxes.Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:0 -
Can anyone suggest a cheap way to hire a Ferrari for a day? I want to hire one for my fiance as a surprise on christmas day but it seems pretty expensive to book direct. Any cheapie sites i could try?Undefeated Wii Fit ski jump champion!

So you don't all think I'm going mad, I'm thanking all of the posts so I know where I've read up to :rotfl:
Ferf, glad you remembered quidco for the po card. I've never bothered using my cc abroad but now I have the po card with no fees, I'll be using this for my trip in Sept. Only prob is that I don't know how much cash/cheques to take with me.
Do you mind letting me know what you used it for? Was there any problems using for anything? Thanks :cheers:Love MSE, Las Vegas and chocolate!0 -
while abraod i use my Post office card for hotel check ins , car hire , and large purchases ( so your covered by the Cards insurance) .
i have never had any problems using it , on my last trip to Canada i used in variety of places including restaurants and factory outlets all without problems. just be sure you ring the Card call center up a day or two before you leave and tell them you are going to where ever and will be using the card so they don,t think any fraud might be occuring on it.

Sure - we used it for 2 hotels, shopping at numerous stores (numerous may be an understatement, really), meals at several restaurants, petrol for the hire car - pretty much everything we could have used it for we did...I should note that most of the charges were in my hometown which is not a major city...so if we didn't have any problems there, I cannot imagine any problems in a larger city. We got a better exchange rate using the card than we did exchanging cash before the trip so I think that in the future we will likely take a bit less cash and plan to put more on the card...though for Vegas, the vast majority of our budget is on gambling so we will still be taking a good deal of cash with us.

I don't have any direct experience, but I don't think that this is something you will find heavily discounted.
There is a 10% off coupon here if it helps:
