im moving into an ntl cable area for university and i do not have a bt landline there.
as i understand it the only options are available to me are
ntl or aol gold
is this correct?
also from what i can see ntl is cheaper (their 750k service costs 25 pounds with the first 3 months half price)
is there any reason why i should choose aol even though its more expensive?
finally we would want internet access in 4 different rooms, how would we go about sorting this out?
any help will be reatly appreciated
thanks
I'm in the exact same position as you heh (dont suppose you're actually one of my housemates?? lol)
I'm hoping that NTL will be pretty understanding with us and let us have maybe a 9 month contract or something seeing as we'd probably all be going home by then...
but anyway, to share the internet between the 4 of you, you need a router, and all your computer's need a network card each. In our house, we're going to be going for a wireless solution seeing as the wires would be a bit of a mess really..
hope this helped.0 -

peter65 thanks for your reply - i could certainly do with you as a house mate since u seem to know what you're talking about!
I have since called ntl and arranged broadband - they do allow a 9 month contract. I am a little worried about the 1Gb per day download limit but hopefully it'll be ok. I've gone for the 750k option at 25 pound a month (we can always upgrade if this isnt fast enough) they also throw an ntl phone line in for free.
do u know how much all the network stuff will cost and how much the wireless option will set us back (we have a room downstairs so wires goin everywhere would be a nightmare? im hopin they can tell us how to do all the network stuff at pc world because i know a fair amount but am certainly no expert.0 -
When i signed up to NTL broadband package 6 months ago - for £33 per month i got broadband, line rental and unlimited national/local with talk 24. As i use my mobile alot i was not really bothered about this, but it seemed useful anyway, and i had no choice because i could not just have the broadband with linerental and still get the £10 off,
However, i made a late payment and they took off the 'privilege' of having talk24 because of this.
But they have left on the £10 discount. So i am getting broadband and line rental fo rthe princely sum of 17.49 per month. which i think is a bit of a billy-bargain.
So if there are any ntlpackage customers out there like me - ring them an ask for the talk24 to be removed, and don't mention that it was a condititon of your original deal!
I am saving 15.50! per month! (my call costs were only ever a few quid each month)0 -
Hey people
My housemates and I want to get broadband in our house next year. The house is all wired and ready for it (although we need to get a modem) but we need to know where is the best place to go.
I've read through various things on the website with interest but they all seem to be at the lower end of the bandwidth spectrum. For 6 of us we think we will probably need 2mbps and definately nothing less than 1mbps. And then we're not sure how much gigabytage we're going to need on a monthly basis.
The research I've done has shown plus.net to be a good bet for the £19.99 monthly 2mb with 2gb which we can then increase if we need to but is there a better deal for a faster service? The article is based on 512 which i accept for a household would be fine but for 6 people would not be as good?
Cheers guys0 -

Consider Metronet - with 6 of you, 2GB/month is unlikely to be enough.. especially if any of you like doing downloadng
With Metronet the less you use - the lower the bill but the maximum bill is capped at about £36 a month

I haven't seen NTL Braodband mentioned. They are currently offering £17.99/mth for 300K in my area, with first 3 mths free on a 12mth contract.
I currently don't have a BroadBand supplier and according to Martins article Wanadoo would be better for someone who needs to pay all the setup costs.
Is there a reason why NTL hasn't been mentioned i.e. is their service rubbish?
I also have an NTL phone line but will change to a BT Line if the deals are good.
It may be just that I have not experienced any other broadband service but I really have no problems for 99% of the time, but that one percent can be stressfull.
Anybody else out there in a position to compare NTL with other providers I certainly would like to see the comparison.Four guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.Together we can make a difference.0 -
Don't know if this has been posted previously? Apologies if it has.

£9.99 per month for the 1st 2 months then £16.99 p/m after that.
Good points, 512 kbps uncapped.
Bad points,
Tech Help £1 per minute or pay £2 per month extra to access help at local call rate
One off activation fee £69.99 for monthly contract
One off activation fee £58.75 for annual contract0 -
I'm with Hull telephones so i can't use BT or any other company. But 192 were offering a service like broadband for an extra charge of £2/ month on top of your provider. Is this from 192 any good?0

Anyone heard of or used this ISP? £18.75 per month for 512 kbps uncapped but a £50 set up fee.
I cannot find any info in the ADSL Guide

Hi all
I'm a newbie to this site & forum so excuse me if I've missed previous stuff!
Anyone had any experience of this BB provider:
http://efhbroadband.com ?
Offering unlimited 512k at £9.99/month + vat. Set up costs highish, 3 month min. contract, doing migrations from 4th October. Looks interesting, any catches?0
