If you have a telewest phone line you can only get Telewest/BlueYonder Broadband.

You would need to get a BT phone line to have a choice of ISP.

I notice Plus.net are now doing 1Mb broadband starting at £14.99. Admitedly it starts with a download limit of 1Gb (buy extra Gb at £1.75).

But, at least there seems to be a lot of competition / flexible products out there if you are looking. Just trying to think now of who might want a really fast broadband connection with a low download limit :-/

  • im moving into an ntl cable area for university and i do not have a bt landline there.

as i understand it the only options are available to me are

    ntl or aol gold

    is this correct?

also from what i can see ntl is cheaper (their 750k service costs 25 pounds with the first 3 months half price)

is there any reason why i should choose aol even though its more expensive?

finally we would want internet access in 4 different rooms, how would we go about sorting this out?

any help will be reatly appreciated

    thanks
  • I haven't seen NTL Braodband mentioned. They are currently offering £17.99/mth for 300K in my area, with first 3 mths free on a 12mth contract.

I currently don't have a BroadBand supplier and according to Martins article Wanadoo would be better for someone who needs to pay all the setup costs.

Is there a reason why NTL hasn't been mentioned i.e. is their service rubbish?

I also have an NTL phone line but will change to a BT Line if the deals are good.
  • I started on pay as you go, then monthly fixed costs and have now just started using Broadband.

Now AOL are an American company. Wanadoo(Freeserve) a French company. Tiscali an Italian company. My brother has been using AOL ADSL in the UK for sometime. He has recently moved to France. So I decided to check prices in France and Europe for ADSL, in general it seems to me that prices are around 15 to 18 Euros per month in France. As 1GBP is about 1.48 Euros it would be cheaper than the UK.

Can we get our Broadband from Europe directly? Are there any technical or legal obstacles to doing so. The people at AOL told my brother that the Broadband market is likely to change greatly in the UK over the next 6 months. Such products as pay as you go Broadband.

Just thought I would check out some prices for adsl in
France. The links below are worth checking out.

    No.

    Yes.

Prices are not always that much cheaper for broadband - many of the cheaper packages have more restrictions on then we have here - also when they quote higher speeds - customers in those countries dont expect to get full speed all the time as we (wrongly) do..

Some countries are cheaper than the UK...

  • Hello all,
