  • Becles - Katie does the standing on her head thing, the other day she was doing it on the bed and ended up doing a forward roll! I've not tried copying her yet.

    - I can't remember, Katie had a virus a few weeks ago, she may have passed a little bit to me as she bf a few times a day, but I don't remember feeling ill.

The first GP I saw did mention reactive arthiritis, and I've done some reading up on it so I know there is light at the end of the tunnel if it is that.

What is handy is that DH is off this week as my parents are on holiday so we had no childcare so he is really helping out.

Anyway, nadnad, might a nursing necklace help? That way he's got something to look at / fiddle with, without moving his head and detaching delicate parts of your anatomy? :D
I think these sound like a great idea :T I didn't get one myself, but I wear a necklace with a pendant anyway, and my babies have always fiddled with it when BFing, and it certainly helps with the wriggling.

I guess you could even make one yourself with some cheapo beads, just make sure it's sturdy :money:

Hugs to Daphne & Elliot - I'm glad people who know anything about the condition (I don't ) have sounded very encouraging. :)

We never got an 8, 10 or 12 month check. I did get another Bookstart pack when we registed with the library though :D, so I'm not really that fussed about seeing the HV.
  • Hi guys.

11mth old has been waking in night screaming, and i mean screaming! But as soon as I go in and see to him he cuddles in and lets me put him back down to sleep. When I go in he is standing up and crying with tears pouring down him. Normally drops off again within half hour. Happened for past two nights., Any ideas? Could he be having a nightmare?

Hi Mrs To Be - sounds like night terrors? I think they do go through a stage between 1 and 4. He may not really be awake. No advice on stopping it though, sorry.

Elliot's mum. I had a heart murmur which what picked up as a baby. I still had it at 23 when they checked for it cos I was having my wisdom teeth out under general anaesthetic. I told my MF when I was pregnant and they gave me a cardio thingy but it had gone. I was 27.

It's never stopped me doing anything, sport, activity, whatever, and I've never taken medication. HTH

I'm not keen on the nursing necklaces. I don't like things like that as it teaches them it's ok to pull necklaces, which may cause problems when Great Aunt Fanny visits with her expensive diamond pendant on and baby thinks - hey it's ok if I pull that :o
Here I go again on my own....

MDW I was asking about you having a virus as I have had reactive arthritis twice and they think it was caused by a bad cold both times it just triggers off the reaction. My 1st episode lasted for over a year and needed a steroid injection but the 2nd I had at the beggining of the year and it only lasted a couple of months. So defo light at the end of the tunnel if that is what it is. I was sent to rheumatology the 1st time to. Hope your better soon.

i sympathise my boy is 13 weeks old today and really suffered very badly at the start with wind - he still has a bad time at least once a day but, its a lot improved.

i use infacol and i think its helps a bit, tried gripe water (but not until 4weeks old i think) but it was too watery and he either choked on it or it ran out everywhere. but the main thing i think helps is keeping baby very upright for about 10-15 minutes after a feed - you need to keep the back ramrod straight and the wind comes out much easier, when i did this for a while wind came out both directions with very little effort. also if this doesnt work then put baby on his bely across your knee and rub his back, or massage his tummy in a circular motion. but i really think keeping them really upright for a good wee while after each feed helps a lot.

hope this helps a bit, its horrible when they're crying and you cant help them.

    This really helped. Thank you!

Alex is still really windy but it is nothing compared to earlier efforts :j

i'm so glad Gem! oh it feels nice to be able to give advice that actually helps someone!

i've had a different problem with my wee man today, he seems to be constipated hasnt pooed since last night and normally its every nappy change, they say bf babies dont get constipated but he is. I've given him water today and tried to feed him lots, dont know what can have caused it and not sure how to help him, he was writhing in agony earlier. i swear every week there is something new!

nadnad sorry scanner isn't working so can't scan in the baby massage moves we got for constipation in classes but hopefully this might help him a little.
      Massage your baby's tummy

Start at the belly button and then massage outwards in circles in a clockwise direction. Some oil or cream on your fingers can also help.

Only continue if your baby enjoys the massage and is comfortable and relaxed.
Move your baby's legs in a cycling motion

Place your baby so he or she is lying on their back. Hold their legs and turn them gently in a quick cycling motion.

This will make the stomach muscles move and, in turn, put gentle pressure on the intestines to make them move.
