awww sorry for your loss xxxx

re swimming we were told not to take riley till he had at least had his first injections and prefrably not untill he was able to sit up (around 6months) or until he had had all his first injections not sure when this is cant remember which is sad because i loved taking my other 2 swimming and its a proper pool designed for families no steps and open area i can leave things i may need on a peg right by the pool it even has playpens on the pool sides and changing rooms.

riley is now 7 weeks and 13lb6 still breastfeeding and baby wearing.

sorry to hear about that becles.

our pool only has a step ladder thingy into it, which is a pity cos the little baby pool is so lovely and warm, i guess i could ask an on duty life guard to help or try and rope my mum or someone to come with me.

breast clinic tomorrow, i'll let you all know how i get on, and health visitor coming on thursday to do his 3 month check so i'll ask her more about cup feeding.
    DON'T WORRY BE HAPPY ;)

    Sorry about your Gran Becles.

We took Tom swimming at four months and he screamed the place down.It got better though.

Wow at Riley being 13lb 6 at 7 weeks. Tom is only 14lb 6 now and he's 7 months! Still wearing 0-3 baby clothes mostly as well. I think he's quite big though!

Thanks on the finger food site, will take a look!

can i ask other BF mums when did you try you wee ones on a cup? my boy wont take a bottle at all (of breast milk) or at the very least he puts up a major fight and the other day we put a cup up to his lips and he seemed to know what he was doing (he's 12 weeks) but i didnt want to try this again in case theres some reason not too - to early or whatever. Any advice? its just so i could leave him with my OH the odd time.
We've used the cup since 4 months (when we started weaning), but I don't think there's any reason whatsoever not to start earlier if you want. Count your lucky stars that your little one is so co-operative, it's a good thing! :j

    Hello All

I am a new arrival from the pregnancy thread having given birth to baby Alex earlier than planned at 34 weeks. After 2 1/2 weeks in the neo natal unit we finally got to come home last night :j

This may be a silly question but .... what do I do with a baby???? Being premature he pretty much sleeps all day (but is wide awake from midnight to 0300). What activities are baby friendly? (Clearly he is not terribly interactive at the moment). I love MSE but I am starting to think that all day every day for my maternity leave might take the shine off it?

Thanks so much for any ideas and advice

Welcome and congratulations on the arrival of baby Alex (what a brilliant name! :j I have an Alex too :D )

Agree with the previous posters - enjoy the immobile sleepy baby stage, it doesn't last very long! There's not an awful lot you can do with him at this age apart from feeding, changing and staring at him adoringly :D but trust me, it won't be long until they're obsessed with toilet roll, the bin and trying to switch off the computer! :rotfl:

Dormouse How did you get on with no Morning feed?
It went ok, thanks. Well, it was a bit of a shock to the system having to physically get up and go downstairs to warm up some milk for him, rather than my usual half asleep cuddle/BF in bed. :o

Although I'm still feeding him at bedtime, it is quite sad to be near the end of breastfeeding. :o

Lol, not just toilet roll, I caught Izzy with the brand new kitchen cloth yesterday..... cleaning the toilet bowl with it.

Cathie, my 7 month old baby also won't take purees or many finger foods suitable for babies. I asked at the clinic and they weren't especially bothered - just said he was missing out first stage weaning and that as fine. I don't actually have any solutions - I just wanted to let you know you're not on your own!! He does quite happily breast feed though - quite worried I'll be still breastfeeding when he goes to school, lol!

People doing baby led weaning... any ideas for finger foods to offer? Tom appears to especially want stuff off my plate that he can't have and closes his mouth and turns his head to anything I give him. He was quite happily eating rice cakes but not refuses them; he will eat finger sandwiches with soft fillings and soft fruit but gets angry if I try to hold them and chokes himself if I don't. What do I do?
We started Alice on BLW at seven months and gave her the following in the first month:
    • parsnip
    • onion
    • sourdough bread (this is more solid and sturdy than yeasted bread)
    • lamb
    • boiled egg
    • banana
    • courgette
    • carrot
    • pancake
    • leek
    • spoon which had been dipped in porridge
    • cabbage
    • chicken
Generally things were cut into pieces about the shape and size of a chip (although obvioulsy pancakes and cabbage were slightly different). Lamb was definitely a favourite. She only actually got bits off from the banana and the egg really. The egg I think was only very small bits but the banana she got larger pieces off so gagged on it a couple of times (gagging is different to choking and is actually a reflex which helps protect them from choking). By about one month of weaning the occasional very small bit would come off into her mouth but they would find their way back out again.

We introduced foods very slowly initially because of allergy concerns (family history) but after a month with no signs of any problems we were more relaxed about what we gave her so in the second month she also had:
    • cheese
    • cornish wafer (it was Christmas so we had cheese and biscuits and that was the one with the least ingredients)
    • goose
    • sprouts
    • celeriac
    • peach
    • bread dipped in chilli (we were having a chilli so we dipped the bread in so she would get a bit of the flavour)
    • lasagne
    • mushroom
    • leek from sausage and leek stew
    • jerusalem artichoke
    • swede
    • clementine
    • cucumber
    • ham and cheese toastie
    • peppers from spanish omlette
    • salmon fishcakes
Cucumber seems to have fallen out of favour now as she finds it difficult to actually eat but she must like the flavour as it was very popular during the "sucking and chewing but not actually eating" stage. By this point we were pretty much giving her anything we were having which was holdable as finger food and if there wasn't anything suitable we would do a bit of fruit/bread/cheese or microwave some frozen sticks of veg we had precooked.
