well my GF spoke the the EA this morning and the seller wants to exchange and complete on the 9th of feb!
So as long as all things go ok we should be on for that! :-)JeremyMarried 9th May 20090 -
I spoke to the surveyor this morning. Still digesting what he said, and it will be a few days before we get the full written report. There were a couple of very small issues to fix immediately, but the biggie was that he said "the roof's not brilliant". By this he meant that, it wasn't about to cave in tomorrow, but would need replacing (the wooden framework ie new trusses and rafters) within 10-15 years.
This made me go
Am I right in assuming that this implies pretty major expenditure? (I am imagining tens of thousands of £££s?) The surveyor said, oh don't worry, by then you'll have more money and it will seem a drop in the ocean".
Easy for him to say! I'm not sure where we stand now. I guess that, with a "might need doing" it might be a bit unreasonable to try to negotiate a reduction in our offer. OTOH, it's a potential timebomb?Don't see the point anymore in offering advice to people who only want to be agreed with...0 -

Hold your horses MJ mum.
It either needs to be clearly written in the survey as to what work needs to be done and when. TBH, a new roof in 15 years- I mean, lots of other houses will probably need that. The survey cant predict what It will need a decade from now! A survey should only reflect the state of somewhere NOW, on the day of survey. Not umpteen years in advance!!!!! Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
I'm still busy packing, I have packed about 20 boxes and still loads to do, just for a 2 bedroom mid terraced, cant believe how much stuff you get.
Been to tip and charity shops a couple of times. I have loads of stuff I am taking to sell on like kids toys/books at a jumble sale. It should raise a few quid not letting charity shop have all that stuff, when I need the money.
2 more full days left, I am panicking that I wont have room outside my house for the large van, I getting Police to put cones out, oh well and good but if persons don't move there cars I cant force them. I am waiting for a space so I can jump in and save to the large van, I dare not use the car now between now and Thursday.0 -
Hi
i am busy packing and cleaning so as to leave the house as clean as i can ,it seems so real now and dare i say it.. all seems to be falling into place quite well. i have left my job and sorted out school places ,phone lines and change of address, utillities etc. its been a lot easier than i expected! removals are booked and 40 boxes packed freezer defrosted even turned appliances upside down to clean, you would be surprised at the dust under them even the sofa got the upside down treatment lol..Good luck to other movers and those still waiting.moved on 2nd feb07:beer:0 -
We have a week and a half to go before moving day, and we are literally tripping over boxes now and we have only packed half of the stuff! I still don't know which school my children are going to as its down to the local education authority to decide - gonna be a last minute rush to get their uniforms I think! Everything is else just about sorted now, so its just a case of waiting now. Completetion day is 7th Feb, we move in on the 9th. I can't wait, but nervous too as its a new area for us and I have lived here just about all my life!!! Still, it will be nice to have a change of scenery - it will be an adventure for us all!0
