Sarah please go back to your provider and talk to them about this. If they try to fob you off then you could print off this thread and show it to them. Explain that you were lied too and this is NOT the job you applied for. Bear in mind that the provider may well only be interested in getting their payment /commision for you to stay there which is why i suggested showing the provider this thread and tell them about this "dress code" Which high street store is this by the way? Dont say if you dont want to. I dont want you to get into trouble.

    Hiya
Thank you again. Had a long day, been doing 2 peoples work, managed 5 delivery boxes hanged tagged, moved lots of stock around and around , broke all the metel rails moved ladders etc , feel exhausted. :(

You are totally right about the proivder. She's only interested in her comission.
I phoned her during my lunch break, she said regarding the hours "it's normall, I work 9-5 why cant you!
I said well it wasnt agreed, I sighned 30 hour a week contract not 40/45 And she went on saying well if you work more you will get more money !
Get along with it and dont give up !
I said what about the fact she wants me in a skimpy dress and stockings!
She said well just "have a polite word with her at the end of the day and say you dont feel comftable wearing tights, OR You could always wear them !
I said NO IM NOT WEARING THE TIGHTS OR DRESS.She said well you could lose your job and if you do JOB CENTRE WONT PAY YOU for messing it up !

Im asked to come in again at 7AM tomorrow, I told her I wasnt going to come as I agreed Monday - Friday 5 days a week and she said "do you want me to start interviewing again " :(
I said if I can cancell my prior arrangements etc I'll come in, if not I'll see you on Monday :(.

no doubt if you are willing work further away they will be willing to contact companies further away.

So they call companies? I dont get that, sorry. If I am doing the job searching and applying for jobs how will they get involved?

I am looking up to 1hr and 30 mins away from home like the law states you have to be in order to claim JSA

How far would you be willing to take this sarah.
Im asking this because a few months ago the Guardian newspaper ran a story about Jobcentre sanctions and i think they would be VERY interested in experiences of the new Work Programme.
Especially considering the lengths you are supposed to go to to keep this job and especially the dress code.
Their suspicions about this Work Programme would be confirmed. The Guardian have said in the past that the trouble with private providers is that they will only be interested in the commision.
They even ran a story recently about a girl working in Harrods who was threatned with the sack for not wearing make up to work and i think the way you have been treated and the way you are expected to dress is worse. xx

you signed a 30 hr a week contract? Why are you working more then? That should be optional not having to work it as she has threatened you. Ask for the number the the companies HR team and call them!!!

yes it is wrong what they are doing but you should have asked about the dress code and then put it to the job centre and the provider would they like to be told to wear the same - the jsa do not even wear business dress!!!!

I always saw the girls work there wear black trousers and the store's shirt. So I thought it would be the same, I asked the girls today and they said only this new boss who started 2/3 weeks ago has made the new dress code a dress with tights amongst other nightmare changes.

One of the girl was really upset today she lives more then 2 miles from the shop and travels by bus, She made it clear the latest she can work is 5.30.
which was fine until new boss came and puts her down till 6.30, the latest bus that goes her way is at 6.15 and she misses it so she goes to her nanas to on her floor in a sleeping bag :(

i would start looking for another job to get out of it. also ask for a copy of your contract if you dont already have a copy and study it to work out what you can say no to. if you can find the time go and seek advice from the citizens advice bureau as well. consider joining a union that covers retail workers.
