Hi Somerset,
Not sure I can offer any help as this is a weird one! Most cats just know that their tray is for everything (they like to bury no 2s & have a scratch around after)What kind of litter are you using? Do you change it regularly? Some cats don't like getting their paws wet if you know what I mean! I'll have a think & see if I can come up with any other suggestions0 -
It could be the bleach thats the problem, bleach gives off ammonia smells similar to cat wee, even though you've given the floor a good clean he will smell the ammonia and will think this is his place to 'go'.
Try either buying a special cleaner that breaks down the smell (I have used one called 'simple solution' from pets at home - its very good) or if you want to save money I believe biological washing powder does the job just as well, just mix up a paste and clean the area with that.0 -
Never thought of that Cat Saving Expert.
Love the name!0 -
I would echo the above - Don't use bleach to clean it or he will smell the ammonia and automatically keep going there.
I know it sounds wierd but I was advised to use vinegar - that smell puts them off and they won't go there again.
Another option in the short term, and again it may be a little gross, but next time he poo's somewhere (he, I never thought I'd write that word on a forum!) instead of cleaning it up and throwing it away straight away, pick it up and put it in the litter tray where it belongs and show him.
Hopefully after doing this a few times he'll get the message.....0 -
Ok thanks all.
elvis girl - it's not the litter material. I thought it might be so I'm on my third 'type' of now .......... the posh wood chip with pine fresh smell lol. Started with Tesco's budget range. But it makes no difference. And I change it every day.
cat saving expert & Jarvisima - I'll stop the breach and use ordinary household stuff. I'll also try the vinegar trick.
I've just asked in our local pet shop. ( thought they'd stock the anti-smell stuff ) The bloke there said he'd never heard of it. Initially he thought I meant the cat was in the litter tray but 'missed' his mark till I explained. Then he said '' I think he's just being a bit of a !!!!!! ''. Great !!!!
Edit : it beeped out the word the pet shop bloke used. It starts with a B and it's got 2 g's in it.0 -
We having same problem with my 2 yr old cat, he uses tray fine for wee's but has just started using floor for number 2's.
We use same litter as always and clean tray every day.
He always seems to do it in a door way either when we've been out or, at the bottom of the stairs when we get up, and no he isn't shut away from us at night he sleeps with us on the bed.PinkPunkBird

We've had the same problem, a bedroom carpet has been successfully ruined and now she's started going behind the tv on our very expensive front room carpet!!! -Anyway we spoke to the vet who gave us a bunch of leaflets, one saying when they've 'been' clean it up with a solution of biological washing powder and water and also a leaflet on feliway which is supposed to help and we've found it quite cheap from vetuk. At the moment we are just watching her all the time, i even move around an extra litter tray so there's one with us at all time. We move her into it when we notice her scratching and spend about 10mins going 'good girl, clever girl' (neighbours must think we are potty!!) So far it is working, yay!!
Love being a mummy

Well i have just washed kitchen floor and cleaned litter tray and started again, so hopefully the lil devil will use his tray today. I thought it was just kids who had terrible twos not cats of 2 yrs old!!
