  • Well of course if you live in Brighton come to me! But it does last ages and I would say is by far the best. Also best value probably as one bag should last 10 weeks as long as you don't over use it.

Help me to help you :santa2:
  • We have two lovely kittens and have been using the Catsan hygenie litter - seems to absorbs smells well but is quite expensive at £4.18 per bag - we did try another one (Co-op own make) but it was disgusting - clumped together and stunk after just one day.

Does anyone else have any recommendations for anything cheaper (that works!)

I use Tesco Premium cat litter its around £3.89, in a white bag, i did use the Catsan one but tried Tesco one and I find it's just as good. My cat is old and does not go out now so she does use her tray a lot. Like you I tried one of the cheap ones and they are awful, ended up using loads of it.

The wood pellet ones are generally quite good - there's either Beauticat, which I think is around £3.99 for a big bag, or Pets at Home do their own version.

I find it's quite good smell-wise, as long as it's cleaned daily, and because it's wood pellets it breaks down into sawdust so you don't need as much to fill a tray. I tend to spray ours with a Pets At Home litter odour eliminator first, which gives it a sort of pleasant marzipanny smell. The only problem I can see with it is that the sawdust can get stuck to paws, so if you have carpets it'll be a pain to clean - on laminate we just sweep up daily and no problems. It doesn't stay on the paws long enough to be ingested though.

  • i would agree with cluuuuur for the wood pellets.

I have used several diffrent brands for cat litter including catsan but found that the woode pellets were really good after a recommendation from this forum.

I use the large pets at home own brand pellets!

All I use for my two is shredded newspaper, changed every day. Cheap as chips!

I have to second this - the wood pellets are very easy to cope with. we use the Pets at Home ones - we have 2 kitties and the largest bag seems to last for ages
  • What about chick crumb or layers pellets?
  • Although I'm in Ireland, I'm sure the same thing would apply in the UK; Lidl and/or Aldi are really the cheapest for that kind of stuff (and a lot of other stuff too), though they can sometimes be difficult to get to. And my very finicky cat loves their cat food!
  • I use newspaper and the tesco cheapy litter (about £1.19 for a 8L bag) and my cat also goes outside. occasionally pongs a bit but I just empty the tray more regularly. Really goes against my grain to spend a lot of money on something for a cat to crap in!
