It's nothing to do with the thread, or the content of it or any posts. It's about how much time it takes for MSE peeps to read and sort through all the reports, then through the thread and posts that are being reported, then to make decisions on removing posts.

Then it's the people who made totally unnecessary complaints who're responsible for getting the thread closed!

Given that the board title is "The MoneySaving in Marriages, Relationships & Families Board" one could argue that the whole posting of "agony aunt" threads is totally inappropriate!

You are just being pedantic now Oldernotwiser.

You know as well as I do that many people use the Marriages, Relationships & Families Board to post their problems on , and lets face it in the main the majority of posts are just that .

As my son would say .. Take a chiil pill :):D

Would you have posted this same comment if the OP had been the father of the girl posting and not the mother?
i suspect i know the answer already but thought i would ask anyway!
    Just a question.

Would he have asked the same question if it had been a father and his 15 year old son? I suspect I know the answer to that one too :(

ETA: as for whether or not this kind of thread should be allowed in this forum, where else could it go? Nothing is taken seriously in the Arms and everything is an excuse to be smutty and disgusting or just plain silly and/or obnoxious, and DT is rapidly becoming the same. The only place where you can receive sensible and sensitive advice about relationships and family issues is here! Does it really matter that it wasn't strictly speaking "moneysaving"?

I couldn't give a toss what people post on here but it strikes me as ironic that someone can say that,

"I think it is important that people can come on here and post a thread asking for help and for others to come on with their experiences, good or bad but if it then leads to a discussion about the rights and wrongs of what happened and why, that part of it should move off the original thread."

If a board is intended for money saving topics, I don't understand how a "discussion about the rights and wrongs" is inappropriate but an agony aunt thread isn't.

The way I see it Oldernotwiser is that a discussion about the rights and wrong of underage sex or the rights and wrong of abortion is not helpful to a mother who is struggling with the relatively new information that her 15 year old daughter is pregnant. That is why, in my eyes, those posts were wrong.

But I suppose for a lot of people, it was great fun to attack a woman who was already in trouble and to wallow in the fact it wasn't happening to them because they and their children are far too blooming perfect!!!!

True I can't disagree with you on this point.

i think their privacy is more important than our curiosity over the outcome.... and the info on there was very personal and perhaps not best displayed for the world to see on a site this big. for that reason alone, i hope the thread gets deleted rather than just locked.

that said, i hope the outcome was/is good for all concerned.

I didn't read the original thread.

I rarely do nowadays when the OP states "I'm a regular poster using a different name", or words to that effect. I now see that as being a synonym for 'troll'.

Yers, that's unfair to the genuine 'regular posters using a different name' - and no doubt there will be some, maybe including the OP of the thread being referred to.

But, I really do think that this board (like others on MSE) is being comprehensively - and successfully - trolled by people who present themselves as 'one of the community'.

That's not good for the community. And it's not fair on those (few) posters who are genuinely 'regular posters who have changed their name'. etc
