but...how great a mum can you be if your 15 year old (therefore likely at 14, 13 etc) is having sex with school pals and thinking thats normal?
just a question!
Would you have posted this same comment if the OP had been the father of the girl posting and not the mother?
i suspect i know the answer already but thought i would ask anyway!
Just a question.0 -
A valid question, but probably not on this particular forum. Maybe in The Arms, under Discussion Time?
I think it is important that people can come on here and post a thread asking for help and for others to come on with their experiences, good or bad but if it then leads to a discussion about the rights and wrongs of what happened and why, that part of it should move off the original thread. It isn't helpful to the OP as they are in the situation and need help to come to a decision and not flaming for getting in to is in the first place as it is already too late for that IYSWIM.
And as for reporting someone because they don't agree with your viewpoint, we would all be barred :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
You see now this is where it all gets so murky - that's your understanding of the rules of the forums
But others will see it differently
And it was only the last week where someone posted to this board then the rules weren't being followed - and got flamed
Perhaps Martin and the team need to look at this board in particular as theres very little money saving to it and a lot of - well to be honest in my eyes - pure bloody stupidity ( we wont mention the cousin on FB)
If the forum rules were applied then 99% of these threads would be shifted to the arms. Once upon a time when there were more active forum guides in here they were0 -

Given that the board title is "The MoneySaving in Marriages, Relationships & Families Board" one could argue that the whole posting of "agony aunt" threads is totally inappropriate!0 -

You are both right. But sensitive topics in The Arms do seem to get flamed. I only dared post in there once and I was wearing a tin hat at the time :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::j Proud Member of Mike's Mob :j0 -
I agee, but why then do MSE bow to those who report for no other reason than they disagree with the opinions expressed? There were a couple of posts which could be construed as abusive, certainly no more. So, why not simply delete those rather than kowtow to those readers/posters who cannot behave in an adult fashion?
It's nothing to do with the thread, or the content of it or any posts. It's about how much time it takes for MSE peeps to read and sort through all the reports, then through the thread and posts that are being reported, then to make decisions on removing posts.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0 -

Is this really a site for sensitive subjects though?
The arms was given to us so that we could discuss OT but now it seems every board is allowed to go the same way
I fell through the floor when I saw someone post that this was a " social networking site"0 -

Then there is no way round it, any thread which attracts a lot of posts will also attract those with opinions that differ, if all you have to do to get a thread locked is keep reporting till MSE get fed up with it, those who want to impose their opinions on others by any means will always win. Ridiculous state of affairs.0 -

Of which they dont do until the reports of abuse start rocking up - reports members are making about posts they disagree with and a few people who were very vocal on that thread were more then happy to hit abuse when someone posted what they didnt agree with0 -
Whilst I also followed the thread, it did descend into insults over the OP's parenting and into a discussion on the rights and wrongs of abortion.
ONW is right, this is a moneysaving site, and there are so so many threads on here which have nothing to do with moneysaving.
Its hard to balance, because people undoubtedly get a lot of help and support on here, that thread had about 80 pages and as the forum team were dealing with so many reports it was too much work for them, understandably.
I had my own thread closed last year when I thought I was miscarrying (I was) asking if anyone could shed some light, and it was closed as it was "asking for medical advice". Since then I have seen loads of similar threads! but it wasn't moneysaving and thats why it went, same with this one.0 -

Interesting that you should say that. I've always found the Families Board to be the most vicious place on MSE!0
