Why is this in "shop but don't drop"?
  • I bet all their food comes from a supermarket/off-the-shelf jar/tin/frozen packet which they can preheat in a microwave before serving you.

Most pubs do. Not from a supermarket but a wholesaler and most likely boil in a bag rather than microwave, but it's the same thing.
  • Never in all my life have I ever tasted such awful food than I did today! My Wife and I decided to have a drink and eat out in Wetherspoons on the South Coast. I ordered a Brunch and my Wife ordered a fish and Salad. The meals appeared and my Wifes was fine, and mine was cold. I complained and they took it back!

It came back 8 minutes later steaming a bit. But the chips looked as though it had been cooked by a blow torch, and the egg was like rubber. The sausage was rubbery as well

I told them to forget my sweet, and the manageress was around un be known to me and refunded all my money for the food!

Sorry Wetherspoons you have put me off for life, I will never go again. I know the food is cheap, but what you dish up I wouldnt feed my dog with it!

Well its the price of having to cater for lazy gormless idiots who like chips with everything and crap plastic food all cooked by the crap British chef. I dont eat at these places as they generally dont even cook it...its pre-prepped junk and cooked in a ruddy microwave.

went to TGIs the other day...terrible food....if you like cheap food thats actually cooked then Toby Cavery is perfectly fine...just dont eat the starters as they are microwaved....i dont work there but i know someone who does and this aint a plug either

  • I've eaten in Wetherspoons a lot recently.

Ideal place for a cheap meal in a nice atmosphere, never had a problem with anything ordered in there. More often that not recently I have been having tea/hot chocolate/coffee and their prices compare favourably to anywhere else in town.

I have eaten in expenisve restaurants but I feel that Wetherspoons offer a very good cheap alternative.

Wetherspoons is very hit and miss, but must admit recently in my local it's more miss.

And the 2 meals for £5.99 deal is appauling - the food is of a very low quality and not very filling.

Having worked for several chain pubs I can tell you that at least 60% of things on a menu are pre-frozen; this ensures the food stays fresher longer & of course reduces wastage. If you're going to go somewhere that's cheap & chavvy, wouldn't you rather have your food quickly so you can eat it & concentrate on the main event i.e. the cheap beer? ;)
TBH if you want cuisine, attention to detail, organic freshly prepared cullinary delights that take time to cook, may I suggest you go somewhere a bit more upmarket & pay the extra?!
As with anywhere, you get good days & bad days - I've eaten in plenty of places & had a great meal, only to go back a couple of weeks later for it to be dire.
I myster shopped a spirit pub last week & had the worst food I've ever experienced. Admittedly I won't be going back there for a while but why should I let one visit tarnish the rest of the fantastic pubs I've been to? - I've been to about 20 in my time & they vary dramatically - it really does depend on the staff/area etc etc.

Wetherspoons was never meant to be gourmet - hence it's value for money, lack of atmosphere & delectable clientelle!
