Wetherspoon Meals Beware!

A take it the above post of mine, well the quote from it was referring to my comment on walking out without paying?
I'll explain again.
Say as you said some people had a meal at wetherspoons. You then say they can walk out without paying and just leave contact details according to a law but you didn't quote anything specific.
Right ok, say I was a manager at Weatherspoons (I'm not, I have nothing to do with catering!) If I has 2 people order, eat something and maybe leave half, leave without a word without paying and just a note saying contact me I'd think that would be taking the p***!
As far as I'd be concerned then that would be theft. I've just chosen that word as it's the closest thing I can think of, I don't have the time to look to see exactly what would be the most accurate word to use. As far as I know people can't just leave and not pay or just say st*** y** or whatever it was you said then leave. They must stay and speak someone to either correct it or the person they speak to may just give a refund.
Anyway having something not paid for I'd probably phone the police and then leave it with them. I imagine if the bill remained unpaid it would be an offence of some sort and the law you talk about would then be a defence, once charged for whatever the offence is technically called (if it can be proved).
If I was the manager of a Weatherspoon and these people just complained I would have just refunded. It's the walking out and leaving I would consider very rude and just trying to be akward therefore I would take the above action. I doubt I'd be alone there either.
What the point being is surely it's better to speak to someone rather than just walking out and not paying saying contact me, you'd just be asking for trouble.
I'm not going to locate laws on the net or prove anything as said before, it was just my opinion. I just think it's funny how seriously these things get taken:laugh:0 -
save-a-lot wrote:I think taken as a whole entity they are a good chain of pubs, and I suppose the quality of food matches any other major pub chain.
JDW will dish out many 1000s of meals a day and it is likely that on occassion the service or the quality will not be as good as it should be, but that is life, people are only human and they did TRY to rectify the situation.
So I think it may be time to just let it go. Just move on and eat somewhere else.
Yes totally agree save-a-lot. Its time to move on, and eat somewhere else!
I have done my part and advised people, and its up to them to either carry on eating/ not eating at Wetherspoons! For me it will be the latter "once bitten, twice shy"0 -

Oh dear I was SO INNACURATE wasn't I, to say your family member when it was really your next door neighbours, mothers brothers friends, daughters, cats, uncle.
I also suggest you count up the replies positive and negative towards Wetherspoons, I think you'll find the majority are positive replies.0 -
UKtim29,
You didn't have a contract with me to reply, but it worked didn't it
That's an incredibly pedantic arguement to take. - but it's also an incorrect arguement - see below.
1st, I only mentioned "stuff you shiny a$$ etc" because it was in reply to someone who said that was what the restaurant manager (these days ?) had/would said/say to them. I gave it as an appropriate response (tongue in cheek).
2nd It is obvious you would have to complain first, and if you get nowhere, then knowing your rights you would then leave contact details and pay what you think is appropriate......obviously in the case I was replying to (earlier in the thread) a complaint had already been made, and the manager had said "stuff you" (or whatever it was)....in this scenario there would have been absolutely no risk of theft............
Assuming of course my view on the law in this area is correctand I can't be bothered to check because I am so sure it is :A

I suggest you read the sticky guidelines for the warnings board.

Yes Ive read it, and so?
I received a Shoddy Service, and acted in good faith to advise people! If they are happy so be it, but some are unhappy with Wetherspoons!0 -
I bought 2 burgers and 2 pints for 8 quid, and some onion rings. Waited half an hour for the food that came stone cold ( except the onion rings ). Told the waiter, he apologised and we had piping hot, fresh, food back on on our table within 2 minutes. Go figure.
I would go again, they are nice burgers.
On the subject of paying for food, you are are well within your rights to make an offer for food that you consider substandard but you cannot just walk out without paying. The proprieter can accept your offer or counter-offer or take your details and see you in court.
This cannot be done anywhere you are likely to want to do it because you pay up front in all rubbish eating places.S!!!!horpe0 -
