I agree with terra ferma. I'm a seller and a buyer on ebay (and amazon sometimes). The posts I've read on here from ebid supporters really put me off the site, you all sound, frankly, a bit unhinged.

And whenever I read the community boards on ebay there are mad sellers who all reckon they're off to ebid, yet on closer inspection of their auctions they seem to have ridiculous t&cs, bad feedback and stars etc, and they wonder why ebay are on their case?

I just can't see the attraction at all of ebid and whilst I don't think ebay is perfect by any means, it's the best site out there just now.

    too many comps..not enough time!

We don't have a board moderator defaming any other site so agressively either
You need to look up the difference between Defame and opinion. All I have seen by Soolin (who actually isnt a Moderator but a guide) is her opinion from experience on ebid. Those experience's coincide with a lot of other people. Just because the opinion doesn't agree with you doesn't mean its Defamation. All you do is make yourself look silly with accusations like that.

All you need to do is have a look at the amount of listings (and quality of) per category in comparison to ebay to realise they are not attracting buyers or sellers.

I'm afraid ebid have the image (greatly deserved IMO) as to the place where all the dodgy sellers who have been thrown off ebay go. The ebid forums used (they may still be but I cant be bothered to look) to be full of people slagging ebay and saying how they got banned. Not good for public relations

Interesting that the mention of ebid and a couple of New posters appear wholeheartedly supporting and promoting them.;)

As a seller I go where the customers are which is ebay and Amazon for my sales.

As a buyer I go where the products are at good prices which is ebay and Amazon

:rotfl:What mostly puts me off Ebid is Ebid, it isn't very user friendly as a buyer which doesn't make me want to use it as a seller. I just had a look and picked auctions that were in a similar area to stuff I sell and most had had few views and I didn't see any with bids/sales.

To be fair, the moment you mention eBid we all come out of the woodwork complaining about it too, so they kind of have a point.

I defend eBay a lot - not having a credit card so not being able to sell with Amazon, it's the only place I've sold anything and it's the system I know best - but really, as a buyer and a savvy internet user, I'd go wherever the stuff is (the first auction site I signed up for was a specialist postcard auction site in 2002, which was done without any software bells and whistles and which was a great place to find valuable rarities that never quite made it onto eBay). I've bought from a wide range of sites and I've got buying accounts with most of the non-specialist auction sites (except the one who wanted to charge me just for setting up an account with them). I have got some good stuff off eBid - just not a lot - but I do think if they wised up and began to cultivate their site - which costs money, so they'd have to look at structuring their fees slightly better - then they wouldn't be in the doldrums.

  • scotch you only come on this forum ever to defend ebid, you have had nothing else to contribute here
if I had to say who is more likely to be biased, you or someone like soolin who has many thousand helpful posts under her belt....

(I've got nothing against ebid, I might give it a try one day, I don't buy there because of the lack of protection, so I'm fairly objective about it...)

correct at the moment i will come to this forum to give my opinion about ebid i cant see anything in the rules that says i cant, what is strange is this obsession of soolins witch is plain for you to see yet you fail to mention it,

"buy there because of the lack of protection, so I'm fairly objective about it...)[/QUOTE]"

no your not being objective you are showing your ill informed and naive and some what paranoid, if you pay via PP and via your card you have just as much protection as anywere else

If Scotchebidder is who I think it is, the only appropriate expression is "Successful seller"!

Personally, I have sold 60 items on ebid this month. Sales have been improving month on month this year and I would expect them to drop in June on any site. I'm not saying that it is the right place to sell everything, but it is a growing site with improving traffic.

If you have plenty of time to waste then give it a try.

I'm probably one of the only people on here still stupid enough to be sticking with ebid purely because I am running at a loss on there and refuse to give up until I have at least earnt back enough to cover the lifetime membership I paid. My sales so far in total have not covered my lifetime subscription.

I joined about 8 years ago and I also bought a lifetime membership. I currently have 4 shops with prices lower than ebay, and in all that time I have sold 10 items. It is the biggest waste of time and effort I have ever come across.

There is another thread here though should you be tempted enough to give it a go:

There is only one 'soolin' registered on eBid as a buyer..has been there for about 8 years...has no shops and no listings and only one feedback.

    Is that you?

If it isn't...I wonder who THAT soolin is??

no oliver soolin gave a opinion once then it turned in too a relentless attack on ebid whenever the subject is raised this has been going on for years, i draw your attention to this,

At Martin's request I have been asked to point out I'm the Board Guide for the Ebay Board , Charities Board , Dosh & Disabilityand the Local MoneySaving-England board so soolin has been told to point out shes a guide for the ebay board so she has a vested interest in ebay, she is in other words sanctioned by ebay to do "something" for ebay, doesent matter what the some thing is she is a voice for them in a offical capacity, might help explain her relentless attacks on ebid

"Interesting that the mention of ebid and a couple of New posters appear wholeheartedly supporting and promoting them.;)"

new people can join this site and give there opinion if they disagree with the general trend of attack here they can voice a different opinion to the contra mantra here.

"The ebid forums used (they may still be but I cant be bothered to look) to be full of people slagging ebay and saying how they got banned. Not good for public relations"

in other words people join ebid and say on the forums why they left ebay and give there reasons for doing so, and you say thats not good for public relations !if nothing else oliver the ebid management gain a lot of insight from this it promotes debate with the users it shows oliver why people are leaving ebay and were they are going,

"I'm afraid ebid have the image (greatly deserved IMO) as to the place where all the dodgy sellers who have been thrown off ebay "

so is this image in your imagination or do you have some hard copy?
i find this part of your post greatly offensive i am not a dodgy seller i have %100 track record on ebid and when i traded on ebay, i bring to ebid 100s of new customers who are very pleased with the products and service i offer, you need to apologise and amend your post, thats a disgracful thing to say

It really would help your argument if you read the thread before commenting. Are you suggesting therefore that there are so very few sellers on ebid that you have somehow found my personal details and double checked my name against every single seller in an hour....goodness, I didn't realise ebid was that small.

I am surprised since you have been eBid for 8 years that you don't know how simple it is to search for a member on there.

My search for 'soolin' came up with one result and took me seconds.

Had it also not occurred to you that ebidders might have wanted to check the stores?

I regularly search for members this way when I am shopping there.

BTW..for those who think that I am a new member...I used to be 'sunnycreatives' but the site doesn't recognise me when I try to sign in ...so I set up a new account

Not going to get into any arguments abut ebay or ebid...would just like to say that my feedback from EBID has just gone through the four thousand mark (insert big smiley face).
No ebid does not have the traffic of ebay and probably never will but it IS a good alternative and with all the fee hikes etc on ebay then more sellers and they will hopefully bring the buyers with them

And my feedback from ebid which is 4,008 at this moment is ALL FROM EBID NOT IMPORTED FROM EBAY OR ANY WHERE ELSE.
