I've bought a few things there but I have never sold anything, despite listing on two separate occasions.

There's not much choice as a buyer, a lot of rubbish gets listed and I prefer to look on eBay or Amazon first. One of my buys was a fake DVD, and I have never had that problem on eBay (though other people certainly have).

As a seller, you don't pay much, but they don't have the resources that eBay do to promote the site and therefore the buyer traffic is a tiny fraction of what you would get with eBay.

You are either going to have to swallow the fee increases (it's probably the effect of inflation, just like you have to swallow other price rises elsewhere - the price of a meal at Subway has gone up, the train fares went up, the price of a network railcard went up dramatically) to get a good return, or list there and hope for a sale. Even the high end electronic stuff they sold as an official site auction on Happy Hour a few years ago went for less than market price. Their promoted payment method PPPay also worryingly does not have a dispute process, so I'd also stick with Paypal.

Go and have a look around by all means but sometimes you've got to spend money to make money. The places with the traffic - eBay, Play, Amazon - are the places that have highest fees. I'm not biased - as a buyer I buy anywhere where the price is right and I've got some protection in the case of scams - but as a seller I don't think a free site has enough resources to promote my items well enough for me to bother. The only upside to eBid is the fee structure - and even then to get the really free listings you have to pay a sub, so you are still paying there regardless of whether you sell anything or not.

If you have plenty of time to waste then give it a try.

I'm probably one of the only people on here still stupid enough to be sticking with ebid purely because I am running at a loss on there and refuse to give up until I have at least earnt back enough to cover the lifetime membership I paid. My sales so far in total have not covered my lifetime subscription.

I joined about 8 years ago and I also bought a lifetime membership. I currently have 4 shops with prices lower than ebay, and in all that time I have sold 10 items. It is the biggest waste of time and effort I have ever come across.

There is another thread here though should you be tempted enough to give it a go:

Why not try the eBid Forums for help and advice - you'll get on much better there:

    http://forums.ebid.net/index.php

For reference, I've been using eBid for over 7 years and am doing reasonably well. Won't make a fortune, but my sales help towards paying for our holidays :)

still being negative about ebid soolin still no sales! ever crossed your mind it might be you who hindering your own sales, ive been on ebid for a few years and make regular sales im also a member here so i guess i must come under your stupid people idea, i find your remark offensive and no doubt other ebidders do too, sounds to me your bitter every post you make about ebid is negative, like you have a axe to grind for some reason under the user name soolin on ebid there are no shops,in fact if you did have shops on ebid that you attended too you would know they were called stores not shops, the only thing you say about yourself in regards to ebid that plays out truthfull is the user name soolin has been reg there 8 years,

Yes I am stupid for sticking with them but I am not that stupid that I would use anywhere near the same user name on any of my internet sale sites.

Unlike ebid where you have to tout your name around everywhere (and yes I have posted on the forums and was told to add my id to every post I make and to add it to every Facebook post etc to get it 'out there') I have never had to work to get sales on ebay. Ebay attracts buyers, people are happy to buy there and very often pay a premium to do so.

I have posted on the forums, although not recently. For new users the advice will be to go out and join every site you can that allows you to make discreet (or non discreet) ads, tout your name around, direct all your Facebook friends to your ebid auctions. Frankly I am happy that my selling life is not my real life and do not mix the two. I am a professional seller and do not want to look like an amateur.

Sorry but I am utterly amazed that anyone would think me daft enough to use the same id on more than one site and for anyone considering using ebid I think this rather shows how desperate the whole thing is that it would be considered 'normal' to do so.

As for being bitter, yes I am, I wasted good money on that site.

It's a shame about Ebid, Ebay has a lot of buisness which is why they are increasing the fee's, it wouldn't be the first time a major business went down when everyone just thought right, I've had enough.

The ebid market though is not picking up any of the slack at all, in fact the forums now are much more negative than they were when I first joined. Then everyone was positive and saw ebid as a bright new thing. Now the forums are full of doom and gloom, some of the bigger UK sellers that used to be there to offer encouragement have given up and some sellers I have bought from in the past have just crept back to ebay.

If there has been any growth in ebid then it is overseas, just go look at the forums, the posters now are rarely in the UK. I think th eebid market is overseas and in places where ebay does not have such a hold.

I hate it when I have to pay the fees, looks like it's going to double, but they are making it more simple by introducing a flat rate of 10% cheers Ebay, life is more simple now, I wonder how many people are going to tighten their belt which would save more money than a little bit of profit on the side.

I wonder actually if this is a small gesture towards the business sellers who are quite vocal on the ebay boards about 'private' sellers being given all the perks. The pinks on the ebay community boards have been hinting for ages that some benefit would eventually be given to properly registered business sellers.

Obviously I think many of us business sellers had rather hoped that would mean a proper benefit to us, but being ebay they have addressed it by sort of penalising private sellers...which is probably better for them.

Personalyl I just wish they would use some of their vast millions to iron out some of the more annoying glitches.

Totally agree with whypayhighfees on the other thread about why some people don't seem able to sell anywhere but ebay.

Really, how strange. Personally speaking until Autumn last year a great many of my sales came from a site other than ebay, if people do just want to sell on ebid though and ignore the money to be made on ebay, then that is up to them.

The ebid forums aren't as full of doom and gloom as the ebay ones are and I don't recall any of the bigger sellers ever spending much time on the forums.

The posters are mainly UK and US. Are you trying to say ebay never managed to get a hold in the USA?
