At least tesco have finally updated the login webpage:

    "
    Online Banking is currently unavailable

We're currently updating Tesco Bank Online Banking.
Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. Please try again later."

Does anyone know if Trading Standards could prosecute Tesco? My understanding of an instant access account is just that- instant. Not a 5 day wait!

Not for me they haven't. I get the standard login page, enter my dob & unique number, and it then takes me to the 'Register for online banking - Request your temporary PIN' page.

    Update...

ANGLICANPAT - Just a thought, you might be able to get the same outcome as me, if you get through to them on the phone and explain that you really need the money to be transfered to your linked account by a certain date, they can override the daily 10K withdrawal limits their end.
Failing that because of their system failure they should offer you the (fee free) chaps withdrawal method.

Thanks Ifts, as expected they didnt come back to me tonight. Ill try and get the same result as you tomorrow morning. Wish this shambles would get busted to the media , then maybe Tesco would get their ar*es in gear.

Ah, well done Alanq, just noticed your post! Fingers crossed for a reaction.

I have found that even when I reach the Tesco Bank site, it does not recognise my computer, though it is the only one I have used. On three occasions out of three, I have had to wait for a text message with a temporary code. I keep ticking the box to confirm that I am using my regular computer - but the system won't accept that.

I've had an internet savings account with Tesco for over a year with no problems and now I'm having similar problems to everyone here trying to access my account. My experience today....

At 8.45pm this evening i logged in using their Login 1 box using my existing customer number.

I then entered my security number and password successfully.

I then chose a unique ID and chose a familiar image and phrase.

I then pressed enter and this is what popped up...

    Register for online banking

    Request your temporary PIN
In order to securely register you for online banking you’ll need to use a Temporary PIN. You can have it sent to you via mail. Once you have your Temporary PIN our online registration will only take a few minutes. Once you’re registered, you can check your balances, make payments and lots more.

Please call our online helpdesk team, you will find their number on our contact us page.

I rang their contact us phone number and been holding on for 40 minutes listening to their "apologise for the delay etc etc.

What is most worrying is how the hell can i access my account? I cant log in, and can't get to speak to anyone. They have left us all in the dark.

What the *?#! can I do??????? How and when can i access my account? Answers needed pronto!!!!

BTW I'm now hanging up the phone. I cant be bothered to hang on forever.

Ifts -- did you already have telephone banking set up? I dont think that I have. Wonder if I can still get action without it. Anyone know if set up is instant for that or do you still have to wait for confirmation of something by post?

Ill try and get the same result as you tomorrow morning.

Just to add they were unable to send the remaining £29K via FP's today, had a callback from the lady that has been dealing with this problem for me just now before she leaves work at 10pm.

She said as she was unable to send the rest of the money today via FP's, they have now scheduled a Chaps payment for the £29k to leave my Tesco Internet Saver first thing in the morning. She also stated that she will not be starting work till 2pm tomorrow so she has left my case file with one of the other managers to give me a call in the morning to check if/when the Chaps payment lands in my HSBC account tomorrow.

Will update tomorrow how I get on with receiving the Chaps payment in my HSBC account....

ANGLICANPAT- Yes I did already have Telephone banking set up, although when I called them for the first time after they had so called upgraded their security login process I was asked on the telephone to upgrade my security details (asked to choose 3 questions and set up the answers, then transfered to automated machine where I had to use telephone keypad to choose a 6 digit pin) The rest of my login process (choose picture, favourite phrase and new password) I had to complete online.

Edit: Sorry it was such a long time ago now that I initially set up telephone banking that I cant remember the exact process if its instant or you will have to wait for something in the post before you can access your account over the phone. Hopefully someone else will come along and shed some light on that.
But from the problems you are having trying to get your hands on your money to be able to fund your Newcastle savings bond, I would have thought they cant stall you any further on the phone for the sake of security if they can view your linked account on their system then they should do a chaps transfer for you to that account, if you were asking to have the money sent to a new account number and sort code which is not on your linked accounts page then I would understand the security implications.

QUITE ! Absolutely frustrating . The fact they are fobbing some of us off with promised ringbacks once you DO get through, is just disgusting. Back to square one. This compensation someone mentioned they asked about is a flat £20 - This should be PER DAY for all the high blood pressure theyre causing.
