I thought I would be really clever and wait a few days to avoid the initial rush and potential problems.

So 30 minutes ago I attempted to log on and update my security details to the new system, after inputting all my details I clicked the final confirm button and was greeted with the blank white screen of death. Now I can't log in using the old or new way.

I've been using the internet since 1991 and this is by a long way the worst !!!! up of any website that I have ever known, Tesco should really sack everyone who was involved in producing this nightmare of a website.

I have nearly a six figure sum in my Tesco account and as soon as I have access to it every single penny is coming out and the account closed.

    Rant over.

is there a set procedure for closing a Tesco savings account?

    can it be done online?

on closure i assume they pay interest up to that date and send a cheque for that amount?

    thank you.

Have now given up with them, re registered test £1 transfer not arrived at receiving account. Now being told not using the main computer and they have no mobile registered.

Eventually called CS sytems down, we will ring you in morning.

My days are numbered using Tesco as an online bank and when I can get access to my money it will be removed. Poor show and clearly using a system not fit for purpose. The last ten years no problems. I have lost confidence in them to look after my money so we will part company.

After reading these horror stories about online banking, I can fully understand why I have no desire to use it. My husband & I both have instant access savings accounts and we've been trying without any luck for almost a month to deposit a cheque into my husbands savings account. I cannot believe that such a simple & straightforward task could be so horrendous, time consuming & stressful.Have been with Tesco's over 10 years and have never encountered any problems before but the last few weeks has certainly made up for lost time.

Well well, I'm flabbergasted, I actually got the thing to work.

First off, I was originally using Chrome 8.0, so I thought I just download and install Firefox 5.0 and give it a try.

Straight away I got further than the white blank page, I had to then apply for a new pin which luckily I had specified a mobile phone number, this was immediately text to me and with that I managed to complete the sign up process with no more problems.

I logged in and out a few times just to make sure it worked correctly, and it did. As a test I tried to log in with Chrome, unfortunately it wouldn't go pass the white blank screen, so there is a definite fault using Chrome 8.0.

As for the new log in process, it's a lot simpler to use than the old way, so on that point it is an improvement. Once logged in everything seems to work correctly although I don't like seeing the word "MIGRATED" against my account number everywhere.

So far I've only found two faults which hopefully will get sorted out in the near future.

    (1) As already stated the "Faster Payments" are not instant as in the old system, I sent a £1 test payment to my nominated bank account and I will update this post once it finally arrives.

EDIT: The payment took about 2 hours but at least it arrived.

    (2) When downloading statements in *.csv format there are a number of columns missing from the statement including most importantly the balance after each transaction, which I find very annoying.

Apart from that, as I said everything seems to work OK now.

I think the problems people are having are mainly using the wrong browser (Tesco should have tested the website with ALL browsers before going live) but also people not registering their mobile phone number during the sign up process as this allows you to proceed quickly if things go wrong rather than waiting a whole week for a new pin to arrive by post, thus I had no need to phone up the help desk.

Sorry for the long post but I thought it's important to keep people updated.

    Fixed my *rse.
I'm one of the "lucky" ones - I don't use IE9, so was able to change my login early on Monday morning in the brief window between the system's going live and its crashing. So I've been able to log in any time the system is actually running.
And that is where the real problems start.
On "Money out", I'm told I have no future payments set up. A week ago, on the old system, I had six, for dates between June 27 and October 1.
To see what would happen, I set up the June 27 payment again. A message appeared telling me that the payment had been accepted (but with no date). The payments pending list was, and still is, empty.
So on Monday I shall find out whether the payment goes once, twice or not at all.
I then (this was on Tuesday morning) made a couple of £1 test payments, one by FP and one by BACS. Both worked as expected, though the FP payment took a couple of hours longer than usual.
"Money in" showed eight DD transfers pending. They correctly reflected thae state of affairs about a month ago, but did not show changes, additions and deletions made in recent weeks. I deleted one and amended another, and both changes showed up on the list.
Which, I have to assume, is no indicator of what will actually happen. The next transfer (not shown on the list) is due on Monday 27. Will it happen?
Transfers scheduled for last Monday and Wednesday went as expected, but of course they would have been triggered last week. On the old system these would have shown up as "recent transactions" for a couple of days before they actually hit the account. Now they just vanish.
The much-heralded distinction between "linked" and "linked 3rd-party" accounts appeared on Wednesday (DD transfers in can be made from the former but not from the latter, in case anybody's wondering). Of the two DD mandates I had set up on the old system, only one - the one I use very rarely - made it across as a linked account. The other, which I need to use 4-5 times a month, appeared as a 3rd-party account only.
I attempted to reinstate the missing linked account, and was invited to post an "original monthly statement" to Glasgow. That's not going to happen. As an environmentally aware and computerate citizen, I dispensed with paper statements long ago.
I'm guessing that the new system is unable or unwiling to detect that Fred Bloggs and F Bloggs are the same person.
On the positive side, the trainee programmer error that dropped leading zeroes from the account number seems to have been fixed, and payments in by debit card appear to work - though that's litte comfort to someone like me, who needs to set up payments well in advance and then go chill on a phone-free beach for 3 months!
Above I've listed the most serious post-login bugs I've found so far. Of course they render the system unusable, but I'm assuming they'll be fixed one day. Following are the factors that make the account permanently unusable, for me at least.
    (1) Security "improvements". I like to travel, and I like to travel with peace of mind, which means with nothing I can't afford to lose. No laptop, no cellphone. If I can't go "naked" into an internet cafe anywhere in the world and check my account then I can't use the account at all.
(In fact I threw away my cellphone, along with my television, five years ago when I was told I was going blind. My life is better in consequence).
A couple of months ago I opened an account with Santander, but closed it as soon as I realised I needed a cellphone to make online withdrawals.
    (2) Customer "support". That there is no e-mail customer support is perhaps the most serious failing of all. Of course, this has always been the case with Tesco, but until last weekend I was prepared to live with it. But it was always the case that if I ever had to phone them I woud close the account (I will, when the queue has subsided).
In the good old days (of the GPCR) in China, the manager(s) responsible for this f*ck*p would have been shot by firing squad as the workers cheered. Happy days!
If anybody's read this far, can you point me to an instant access savings account that allows payment in by direct debit and payment out by FP (preferably) or BACS, both at least 3 months in advance? And, of course, can be operated without a slapperphone.

Many of us were promised compensation for phone calls etc.

We were told it would be paid into our accounts - obviously a simple and instant function for Tesco Bank to perform.

    Well, mine ain't there yet.

    Has anyone received their compensation?

Tesco has been having a lot of "temporary system glitches" lately. This one at least was to customers' advantage. Tesco may not be able to organise a booze up in a beer factory but at least they can facilitate a booze up!
