Tesco Online Banking Inaccessible

I finally managed to get through on the 0845 number this afternoon after holding on for about 50 minutes. The guy I spoke to was very helpful and talked me through what I needed to do. I can finally access my account :j:T
I transferred £10 to my current account to make sure everything was working and the money was there when I checked with my bank.
I hope everyone else manages to get access to their accounts soon.0 -
Just got my BBC moneybox email with the preview of the radio 4 programme tommorrow at 12 noon. Looks like the chief executive of tesco bank will be on. Worth a listen, I am sure someone will post up a link to the iplayer (and time) subsequently.
And before that, here's a reminder of what Tesco's Head of Communications said on Moneybox last Wednesday:-

I assume the IP address is enough to identify the registered 'computer' and my dynamic IP is quite sticky so it looks like I won't have to get an SMS message for every login. I would have to change my IP address to confirm that. It also means the registered 'computer' is any computer with the same IP address - I wish they would properly document the requirements of the new security system.Stompa0

Let's hope they're not using IP address, that sounds like a recipe for (even more) disaster.
I'm no techie but my guess is that they are using local shared objects in adobe flash player to determine if you are using the same computer as you registered with.
In their questions and answer they say you have to have adobe flash player version 9 or above installed.
If you run your browser in privacy mode (firefox, internet explorer, chrome and safari) and are using version 10 of adobe flash player and then then go to the Tesco website and log in you will find your computer won't be recognised as the one you registered from because those local shared objects can't be accessed in privacy mode.
To test the theory you would have to disable local shared objects for the Tesco website or globally within adobe flash player. By default local shared objects are saved on your hard disk if you browse normally.
Would be interested to hear from a techie who understands these things though.I came, I saw, I melted0 -

I have IE8 and Flash 10 - I just tried turning off In Private Browsing for all sites - guess what - my computer is still not recognised as the one on which I did the initial set up .0 -

I tried various things including changing IP address and I suspect amongst other things they are using some browser fingerprinting (http://panopticlick.eff.org).
Guess we will just have to see how often it screws up and people need those mobile phones and SMSed PINs0 -

Did you run in private browsing mode when you first registered also? That would mean Tesco couldn't recognise your computer then, and so wouldn't subsequently be able to tell whether your computer was the same one even if you later logged in with privacy mode off?I came, I saw, I melted0 -
Finally managed to get in with Chrome - I set plugins to only run when clicked so had to add the site to the exceptions list. Looks like they are using Flash LSOs to set a kind of cookie. Very poor that it didn't display any kind of warning message, just a blank page!0

its def not IP address - I logged in from a combination of browsers and Win / Linux all with the same IP address, only the one I first logged in with was recognised. most unlikely anyway as for many people this is not fixed0

I'm still awaiting my 'temporary PIN' so I've yet to see what they've done. The decision to use Flash seems very odd though. Do any other banks use it? (I don't recall seeing any myself).Stompa0
