Well after a 43 minute wait I finally got through, and a temporary PIN is on it's way (allegedly).

Where are you going to put this temporary pin? There isn't anywhere to put it. Why do we need a temporary pin, if we have already got online banking?

Also watch out if you are using the 0845 numbers it's costing me 10.22p per minute, currently I have run a bill of over £15 hope Tesco will refund that.......I think not

They will - they offered me £20 without argument. Just ask (if or when you get through).

I don't know why they are issuing temporary pins. When I finally managed to log on they sent me a text with a number to use because they said I was using a different computer. I wasn't, I only have one computer, but I did get straight in then. If anyone hasn't got a mobile phone then I think they will have to wait for the post.

I am voting with my feet.

This morning I managed to access the account (with the obligatory text messaged PIN) and withdrew the remaining balance. Assuming that comes through okay to the designated account, I will be firing off a letter to Tesco Bank's head office in Edinburgh instructing them to transfer accrued interest to me and to close the account.

I will also tell them why in terms of the events of the past few days and unwillingness to have to undergo this text message nonsense every time I login. My browser is set to delete cookies and I am not changing that.

There are few things that banks like less than losing customers. So if enough people take this course of action it may be enough to have somebody let go over this. That's what it needs - pour encourager les autres.

I had the same problem when logging in using the same computer, their website is faulty and doesn't recognise it or some other reason. It must be costing them a fortune to send text each time to a user to log in. How stupid is that design?
    well done Tesco!

    I have closed my account.

After several attempts I just happened to click on the compatibility view icon (i'm using IE9) whilst the blank screen was showing and lo and behold I made progress and saw the next log on screen. After entering digits and passwords and having a text message sent to me (cos I'd since deleted the cookies) I got through.

Thank you, I'm also using IE9 and clicking the compatability button worked for me too.

Why is it people like us have to find these things out for ourselves? The Tesco site now says everything is working normally. What about all the people with IE9 who do not read this site? Surely someone at Tesco should have the intelligence to put a notice up warning about IE9? And why doesn't it work? The old log in did.A previous post gave Philip Clarke's e-mail address, I suggest we all e-mail him.
