Sent the stage 1 letter to GE Money two days ago. I've been meaning to do it for ages but just didn't round to it. They must have made thousands out of me over the last six years and it's about time I got my own back.
Anybody else reclaimed from GE Money (mines a store card btw) were they difficult to deal with and did you suceed?0 -

Hi Pinknico
Sorry being a newbie.... whats mcol?0 -
money claim on line, its a court process but online, Martin explains it in his reclaim credit card charges guide.
I wrote to GE Money, they said no. Wrote again , they offered difference between charges and £12. I filled in form on mcol, they said we will defend it, they then sent a letter offering full amount.
Hope this helps.DS1 12/10/04

It is proving to be almost impossible to get initial information from GE about charges applied to my account so I can start the reclaim process.
I have had nothing but incomplete information, evasiveness and delaying tactics which, by reading other posts seems to be the norm for them. They have obviously made a corporate decision to 'fob off' anyone and everyone to keep hold of their enormous profits. I can't be the only one who is getting this stance.
Has anyone actually had anything refunded ever from GE and how did they do it?
I am am here... 1st letter asking for details of charges sent 19/11/08 (with £10 fee). Reply dated 12/12/08 missing two and a half years details!!!, (they kept my £10 for providing this rubbish too).
2nd letter.. wrote to GE explaining info was incomplete etc and demanded a response within 10 days. (1st January). Received a response on 11th Jan saying thankyou for your official complaint we will investigate and will respond within 8 weeks
Please post your tactics for the assault of GE here.0 -

Which 'first letter' template did you use?
Was it a Subject Access Request?DFW Official Nerd Club #1114

Hi IcklePickle
I used the template from this site and yes it was a SAR. My only mistake was not amending the last paragraph to say 14 days instead of 40. Their reply to me, Please find enclosed a list of default charges etc, If there is any further information you require please let me know, specifying exactly what type of event or manual intervention that you require data about.
The last paragraph apologises for the missing details and inconvenience this may cause and then goes on.. however, this will be taken into consideration when making any calculations for a refund where applicable.
Now call me cynical but my SAR didn't mention refunds, I really do think that there has been a decision to make it as difficult as possible to obtain the information so the refund process can even start. Once you put your request for a refund in writing they are bound to reply within a specified period or risk the FOS or court action.0 -
Hi gingerkitten
Just an update on my ongoing saga with GE Money.
I also received the same letters with many months details missing over 4 store card accounts, I didn't know which way to go so I contacted the FOS and lodged a complaint, I then received a letter from GE Money Complaints Team dated 18 Dec 2008 saying that they would look into the complaint of the missing statements and it would take 4 weeks.
Needless to say I never received an update, I wrote a long letter explaining that the Ombudsman had given them a time limit of 8 weeks and that I would be working to that deadline, I included a list of all the charges I had details of for each account with the total and interest. I explained that I was trying to reclaim the charges which I am sure they already knew and missing information was not good enough to start the process. I asked them if the information was lost or just not available when the details were sent out to me. I sent this recorded delivery Monday 12 January 2009.
On Monday I received another letter from GE Money saying that they didn't have any answers for me and that they would be taking another 4 weeks to investigate, this obviously had crossed with my letter.
I then got a letter yesterday dated 13 January 2009 and it states that in their opinion they are allowed to charge the fees. They have looked at my account again and they have still been unsuccessful in retrieving data for some statements. They have included estimated amounts for the missing data.
As a gesture of goodwill they have refunded a proportion of charges to my accounts which are no where near the amounts I have asked for so I will be writing again today with a thanks but no thanks reply.
Does anyone know which letter I use to say thank you for the offer but I would also like the rest?
I certainly will be fighting for the rest and my 8 week deadline with the FOS is not up till 9 Feb so they have till then to sort it out or I will be handing it over to the Ombudsman for them to sort out for me.
My advice is please don't get disheartened, keep going at them, I have worked through the letters, I would also recommend lodging complaints with the FOS then you can work to their time limit and not GE Money's.0 -
