EDF paperwork + cooling off period
Comments

Just noticed that is says ....
"You’ve now got a cooling-off period of 12 days and you can cancel your new contract with us during this time. This starts on 10/06/2011 and end on 22/06/2011"
Also noticed that I can't switch My preferred communication method for billing to "Email", "paper" is the only available option on the drop-down menu even though I get to that page from the "Sign up to paperless billing" link. Definitely flaky.0 -
Yep, their website is certainly flaky! I applied to switch to their Fixed 2014 tariff via uswitch last week. A welcome letter arrived within 3 days, requesting I set up my online account. Been trying all weekend without success 'due to technical reasons'.
The other odd thing is, I received only one letter for dual fuel with one account number......yet on the same day my in-laws switched also to EDF's Fixed 2014 (with my assistance), only they received two letters, with two separate account numbers for Gas & Elec. How would they know which account to register for their online account? And despite selecting email billing, their letter(s) state 'Paper' Billing method!
I am now concerned.0 -

Once you're registered you use your email address to login, you only need an account number to setup the account. They'll also get two Email asking them to validate their email address.0 -
STILL can't register .......:mad:0

I read somewhere on here that the reason fixed/capped prices are so dear is because they are paper billing - so perhaps that is the reason you can't alter it.
I'm not sure how true this is until I get my paperwork through of course.0 -
Thanks for the replies. I'll look out for the two account numbers, emails etc.
I'm not impressed with possibly having only two days of my 'cooling off period' left to study all the paperwork and make a definite decision either way. And that's IF it arrives in the post tomorrow.
brewerdave: have you tried registering by phone instead? Or are you put off by the reported problems people are having getting through?0 -

I registered through Money Supermarket Via MSE on the 9/6/2011.
The "welcome" letter I received earlier this week was dated the 13th.
It included an "econtract" on the reverse with a date of th 9th, stating I had 12 days cooling off period.
It all looks OK to me, it does quote a figure for both Gas and Electric but I guess that is for their internal purposes, the total amount is as forecast.
There is nothing in it that makes me think I have made the wrong decision (previously FOL8).
EDF service hundreds of thousands of customers, they will always make a small percentage of mistakes it is a service business, unfortunately it is only those that get publicity.
Let us know if you do decide to cancel and why."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

After calling them this morning they suggested I leave it a few days and try again. However I tried again this morning to register and this time success!0 -

Still no paperwork in the post today:(
The main reason I am 'umming and ahhing' is because I am on Eon Saveonline3 which finishes at the end of October.
So it will cost me 24% more up to then (or whenever Eon put prices up in the meantime) + £30 exit fees + small amount of discount off final bill.0
