Anyone know how long before you are considered a 'new customer' again after cancelling a card?

Just cancelled my capital one and a natwest. One said i could reapply in 8 months the other 10.

    Hi all

An update on Abbey (see posts above). I asked for 0.9% as others had got, but the best they would offer me is 1.9% for six months. However they did lower my contract rate from 15% to 12.9% - to slightly undercut the Capital One card I have.

So I have now cleared my Capital One card. Does anyone have experience of whether they offer good balance transfer rates to existing customers?

    Thanks Seaxwyn

What are Capital One like with loyalty offers? Will they offer LOB deals to stop you closing your account?

I need a new BT card and was thinking of cancelling my MBNA card (which has a nice big limit on it) which I'd love to use when my current 0% offer runs out on a BoS card.

Now, is it easy to haggle down the BT fee? 9-12 months with no fee would be just peachy. I'd appreciate any tips for dealing with the MBNA people.

    Thanks :)

Well I phoned them up and the best they would do was 1.9% for 6 months. :(
Looks like I'll cancel the card then. Shame as apart from that I found them to be pretty good.

They didn't even try, the guy in the customer loyalty section just repeated the offer and said that was the only one on offer. Ah well, guess I'll be hitting the MSE guide for a 0% deal!
  • Hi All,

I was offerd 6.9% APR Variable on the HBOS card, 7.9 on the Abbey balance transfer card after the 18 months interest free period ended (was 12 monthsthenwhenI phoned retentions got a further 6 months). And also barclaycard tends to have decent offers available for existing customer on a regular basis ( this can be found on the barclaycard website and is available to all types of barclaycard i.e. the initial visa they offer is eligable as well as the platinum. I would also second the posting above regards the Abbey cc cheques at 3.9% however mine expire march 2007. In addition those customers who hold clasic Halifax visa cards can upgrade to the One card a get the lower APR of 9.9 and also benefit from 0% for 9 months on purchaces and bal transfers.

As youwould expect all these offers are a resultof mecalling and askingfor more competitive rates ofinterest.
  • I would phone they do post offers out but these are as and when. Also if they dont offer you something decent turn it down but say you will think about it then call back 2 mins later speak to someone else and you may find as I did that you can get a much better rate. my first call they offerd 9.9 then they dropped it second time round to 7.9. 2% in 2 mins worth the extra call. but offers of 4/5% do come alond fairly often with this company.

Just phoned MBNA and they gave me £32000 at 0% APR for over six months into my bank account for a £75 fee.

That's well over £600 in interest I will earn.

The bloke on the phone said, "Well someone's gonna have a nice xmas"

I think he thought I was gonna spend it!
