I posted this earlier in the thread. May help you .

"Abbey have just given me 0.9% until 1/5/07, capped fee of £35, monthly minimum payment still £5 (plus interest, and fee in 1st month). Not only that, but they've transferred all but £500 of my virgin c.l across, which takes maximum advantage of the capped fee. I was pleased! Hope someone else has a go and gets the same (I'm going to get my oh to call them when she gets home!)"

Needing help!!!!!!!!,I have fallen into the Capital One trap and am at the moment paying minimum payments on an expensive interest card that i took out in June this year, the payments are extortionate but at the time it was the way out of a sticky problem, can anyone suggest anything that may help as I am knitting a striped jumper and have my mask and "swag bag"ready. Thanks Sam

Was you late on a payment? If you have only had it since June it seems a short period for 0% to end....Capital One usually offer much longer periods.

Could transfer the balance to the HSBC Mastercard. Offers 0% on balancr transfers until Jan 08. Or move it to M&S &More which offers 3.9% for life.

Thanks s71hj, that is really encouraging. Did you phone them and ask for that rate? Any tips on how to persuade them to do the same for me?

    Thanks again

To be honest, this is just what the computer came up with for me straight off. I know somebody else on stoozing.com called soon after me and got offered 2.9 and £75 cap. In my experience if you are lucky with the csa you get, you can sometimes talk them out of the fee, or at leat get it capped. Also, one once told me that he could waive it for a transfer from another credit card, but couldn't have done for straight to bank account. You could try that tack. The other thing is to have another card in your mind to claim you are going to apply for which is a better deal than they are offering - a good one is capital one, as it's often 15 or 16 months 0%. make sure you sound slightly uncertain however - everytime my oh overhears a stoozing conversation I'm having she trusts me slightly less I think! Also, if you have a number of MBNA card deals expiring at about the same time, wait until they all have then ring, because by transferring credit limits across, you max the benefit of any fee cap. Don't however transfer the whole c.l across. In this case I kept a £500 c.l on the virgin card, so that in 6 months time (or sooner) that is an extra card to possibly get a deal from. Good luck.
  • After reading these messages,I rang A&L credit card services as I have a card with them with 10,800 credit limit.I asked them if they had any offers on.
The man said its % was the default rate at the moment(13.9),but he would see if there were any promo's on. He came back and asked"how does 0.9% sound until May"? Result. Moral of the story....Get out and ask!
BTW. £22.00 bt fee, but worth it.

    Hi there

I have a NatWest Visa card which has been unused and at 0 since April. I have just received a letter offering me BT at 2.9% APR for 6 months, with a 2% transfer fee, max £49.

Armed with this I'm going to ring Abbey (who I have just paid off) and hope they better it.

I'm very glad I found this thread - thanks everyone who's posted here.

Updated to say - Abbey offered me 1.9% with a £35 fee. Hoorah!

My A&L 0% ends in December so i called up to cancel card and they offered me 0% until august! :j
Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure
  • Abbey have just offered me 0.9% until May 07, although did try fobbing me off with 2.9% and then 1.9% first. Fee capped at £35.

I thought I might wait a couple of days until December though and see if they have anything for 0%. The CSA told me to keep phoning in as their offers are changing all the time!

My husband rang to cancel his Sony card which we had only used for 0% BT some time ago. The person he spoke to immediately offered him another 0% deal for approximately six months but with a 3% fee. He said we were not interested because of the fee so the fee was waived, therefore, we said "yes please". I will pay it all off within the time and it gives me breathing space as we have just paid out to update our car.

I really didn't expect such a response as the other card we cancelled with another company just accepted our decision.
  • MBNA just offered me 0% for 9 months with no fee (initial offer included 3% fee capped to £75 but this was dropped after a bit of haggling).
My Cap One 0% offer is about to finish so I will transfer the balance and close the card. Anyone know how long before you are considered a 'new customer' again after cancelling a card?

    q.
It'll take a few years .... but I'll get there;)
