Grumpydubs, this thread is for "Existing Customer Balance Transfers" which wouldn't help you if you only have one card.

A 0% Balance transfer on a NEW CARD would allow you to do exactly what you asked, but they are usually only offered to people with good credit records.

If you are employed full time, only have £2k of debt and have always made payments on time, you have a fair chance of getting one if you apply, but look at the "Credit Rating" sub-forum first, and check what information is held about you, before you apply.

You also need to be VERY careful not to spend more than you can afford to repay. Even without any interest, paying £2k off at £45 a week will take nearly 5 years to pay off. There are always pressures to spend more. If you can't manage that temptation, then don't get any more credit.

  • Bank of Scotland

    This month:
    0% for 15 months - 1% fee!

    Last month
    0% for 15 months - 3% fee

I received a letter about the offer before December, and made a small transfer. Then towards the end of the month I was going to do another larger transfer and the guy on the phone mentioned that there was an even better offer after Jan 2nd with just 1% fee.

Thats the lowest fee i've seen for a while.
  • In relation to Balance transfers, I've just arranged a few new ones (£5,000 with Bank of Scotland for 1.5%, if anyone is interested).

I wondered what happens when I come to the end of an existing balance transfer, if I haven't yet cleared the full balance?

Obviously, I'll be charged interest on that balance - is that rate just my normal monthly rate, or will I be charged more?

    Thanks

You will be charged at the standard rate for balance transfers on your account (which will be detailed in your T&Cs). This is often the same as the standard rate for purchases on the card, but not always.

  • I have a Halifax Rate for Life Card, with a 8.9% rate on balance transfers, purchases etc. I've had the card a good 5 years plus but it has had a zero balance for around the last 2 years.

I phoned and said that I wanted a 0% balance transfer card and asked whether any 0% balance transfer offers for me on this card before I closed the account to go elsewhere. I was put through to 'customer retentions' and was offered 0% for 12 months with a 3% fee. 12 months should be long enough for me to clear all my CC debt so should mean no new applications for me. Happy Days :)

  • Halifax - 15th January offer
DH called halifax to see if any offers on the card - we transferred the balance off this to another card in December so weren't expecting anything.

They very quickly and easily offered him 1% BT fee which ends in April 2015 - thought that was a fab deal!
  • Nationwide are offering Balance Transfer for Existing Nationwide Credit Card Customers: 0% for 1 year with 2.9% fee. Increase of Credit Limit is also possible if requested.
  • Barclaycard - continuous offers each month. Normally 0% for 9 - 12 months with 1.9% fee. They even raised my limit another £2k :j

I also occasionally get 6.9% LOB offers from them.

Santander - only have a small available limit left, but they still offered me 0% for 12 months, with 3% fee.

Virgin - offers with 3 % fees every month, even though I don't have much available balance to play around with.

    Tesco - 0% for 14 months with 3% fee.

I have taken Tesco up on there offer and moved outstanding santander balance and will see if santander give me another offer when my next 0% with another card expires.

I'm sure one of the above will. :j

Wish the fees were not so high :(
  • After not accepting a 0% offer as it was only until august! I have logged on today to find a 6.9% life of balance.
