Barclaycard Mastercard (formerly Egg Blue / Egg Money) used extensively for purchases
Online banking - 0% BT til April 2015 with 3.9% fee.

Barclaycard Platinum (very rarely used, only for BTs)
Online banking - 0% BT til Oct 2014 with 2.9% fee.

Neither are good enough to stooze, though.

  • Hi Guys

This is my first post so apologies if I am repeating any earlier posts.

I need some advice, I have £3000 on a Barclaycard at 21%, previously an egg card, with a credit limit of £8300, and also £6200 on an RBS Card also at 21%, with a credit limit of £8100.

I want to take advantage of the Barclaycard existing customer 6.9% balance transfer for life offer, but can not see a way to shuffle the £3000 out of Barclaycard and then transfer £9200 back again, assuming they will give me that much of a credit line?

I do have another dormant card with Barclaycard with a £3000 credit limit.

I have already been turned down for an MBNA card in the last month, which is scaring me applying for another card, I have an excellent credit reference file with a score of 975, but have only been in my present job for five months after a year unemployed, and I am guessing this is why they turned down my application?

If anyone can suggest a plan to get my two debts onto a lower rate I would greatly appreciate the advice?

You could transfer as much as possible from the RBS to the Barclaycard 6.9%, then transfer the £3000 from the Barclaycard to the RBS, then back again to the Barclaycard once it has shown up on the RBS card (along with any other debt still on the RBS card).

Of course you'd be paying double the fees for the £3000 as you'd be transferring twice, but would still save a lot in the long run.

You'll need to ask Barclaycard for a limit increase if you are to get the full amount onto the Barclaycard, but if you can't get this it is still worth transferring as much as possible with your current limit and concentrating on paying the rest of the RBS off ASAP whilst making minimum payments (or just over) on the Barclaycard.
  • Thanks Blitzboy, how would you rate my chances of applying for a new card now bearing in mind I have only been in my present job for just over five months, but have a spotless credit file?

You already have over £16k credit available just from those 2 cards, plus any other loans/cards/catalogues you may have, so unless you are earning over £30k I'd say your chances are fairly slim. Have you tried the 'pre-check' facility on the credit card section of MSE?

Ignore your 'credit score', it's not much more than a random number plucked out of thin air. We've seen plenty of instances on this site of bankrupt people with perfect credit scores.
  • Hello

I was hoping I could yield some information regarding debt transfer...

I have around £2,500 on an RBS credit card which I would like to move to transfer to a 0% card and set up direct debit to pay off the card by the end of the 0% time scale.

My card is registered at my mother's address; where I am registered (for voting) at my address.

When applying for a new card what address should I put down?

Sorry if this seems like a stupid question but I am eager to get this sorted so as to improve my finances.

    Many thanks for any reply
