  • Thank you very much! Just called HSBC with the same story and they offered me 4.9% for 6 months on outstanding balance. definitely worth a call

Just called HSBC regarding my APR rate for my credit card which is currently 20.9%. I asked whether they were able to lower this rate so I am able to pay more of the debt off my card rather than just the interest I was getting each month which was amounting to a lot.
They put me through to someone who confirmed as I had been with HSBC for a long time (17 years!) that they could do a deal for me where they could reduce the APR rate to 4.9% for 6 months to help me. I asked whether they could extend that but they confirmed this was the maximum they could do but in 6 months time, I could contact them again to see if they were able to offer me any other help after this.
Worth a try calling up and seeing what they can do for you if you want to help clear your credit card debt. I'm going to get my husband to call up Barclaycard now to see if he can reduce that card down now!
  • I just tried this with HSBC - got offered 6.9% for 6 months, not great compared to others on here, but happy with result for a 5 min phone call, saves me getting a new card but brings the card's interest rate down with a thump.

Rang Tesco MCard as during the online log in process I unwittingly locked myself out of the system. I told them the only reason I wanted to log in was to see if there were any 0% BT deals available and I got offered one on the spot. 2.9% fee. 0% till the end of the year. Very helpful. All sorted in 5 mins, very efficient.

  • What offers are people currently getting from Halifax?

When I click on Balance Transfer in online banking I only get offered 0% for 6 months with 3% fee. Bit lame!
  • Just come off the phone with Tesco as my 0% offer is due to expire in July and was told it was company policy to offer no further deals.

Looks like I'll be card tartin' to Virgin then!

I contacted Nationwide to ask for a reduction in my credit card interest rate - whereupon they suspended my card & asked that I contact their collections team about a payment plan! My account is in good order, so this is solely due to this request. I suggest you don't contact Nationwide to ask for a deal!!!!!
  • Was just gonna ring Nationwide for the interest rate reduction but after reading Brit Guys experience I think ill pass and just apply for a long term 0% card
