In March 2004 I was shopping in M&S for my daughters school uniform; instore I was asked if I wanted to apply for an M&S credit card. For my time they would give me 10% off my shopping with them that day.
I duly applied, thinking of the 10% discount, and much to my surprise some time later the card arrived through the post with a £2k limit.
I didn't particularly want the card so it has sat in my bedside table drawer since then, gathering dust.
Last month an offer came in through the post - balance transfer to my M&S Card at 3.9% for the life of the balance. I upped my limit to £5000, and duly transferred a balance to it.
I have looked at the M&S website but have not found any mention of this particular offer.0 -
I applied for a Virgin card on Martin's recommendation, but got a letter back saying I'd been turned down. When I rang to enquire, they said that 'cos it was administered by MBNA and I'd already had an MBNA card with a preferential rate (can't remember if I actually used it!) they wouldn't let me have another 0% card. Said it was now MBNA policy and they anticipated other companies doing it.0

How long ago did you close your previous MBNA account?

McFree, this depends on your circumstances, and card recommendations are given in the Best Balance Transfers articleDoes anyone know of unofficial existing customer BT offers available through either Natwest or Capital One?Former MSE team member0

We have 2 separate Capital One accounts - As “valued customers” we were both sent letters dated Feb 05, inviting us to use our “purchase rate cheques”. Any interest accrued would be calculated using an APR of 8.63% and 10.82%.
No expiry date of this offer is mentionedCharles J0 -
I have had an MBNA card for about 3 years now. As soon as I get to the end of my interest free period, Ipay off the balance and they lend it straight back to me even though they have never had a penny in interest from me! There can't be anything in it for them (except hoping that I may trip up one day) but they just keep on doing it.... :j0

I was the same but cancelled yesterday after them sending notice that there is no upper limit to the 2% fee for balance transfers. Before it was capped.0 -
They've tried charging me a fee before for balance transfers, but after speaking nicely to them they agreed to waive it..0

I think this will happen less and less. With the change in T+C's to their own cards a £10k BT will now cost you £200. They'll not want to waive too many of those....0
