  • my mbna classic card (15.9%) runs out 0% on 15th of december so i have now transfered my balance of 2500 to my halifax one card ( a bit early i know)

should i ring them up now for a balance transfer to see what they can offer me or should i wait till after the 15th?

I'd wait as, technically, your current deal hasn't expired yet.
  • i couldnt wait - i needed the money bad, but didnt let mbna know that!

    2350 @ 0% till may 05! im now officially a happy bunny!

FYI, MBNA just gave me 15500 @ 0% for 6 months

and the operator said thats the ONLY rate she has available...not sure if that was for me or anyone...

i cleared the previous balance yesterday as the previous 0% ran out...so thats 12 months at 0%...

    hope it continues...
  • Just an idea for anyone with a halifax classic card. I balance transferred from them last september to an egg card, and as my 0% runs out this month I rang Hlaifax to see what they can do.

They said they couldn't offer me anything on the classic card but would upgrade my card to a Halifax one card - with 9months at 0% - yeah :)

so may be an idea for anyone with a halifax classic card.
    Just thought I'd share

On the Egg green card, aside from the annual 0% for up to 5 months and the various other balance transfer offers it is possible if you mention you were thinking of closing the card down to get extra balance transfer offers, 1.9%, 2.9% and 5.9% and even some balance crystallisation offers. If there's nothing like that you'll probably just get told about the anniversary offer which is worth sticking with them for anyway.
  • I have a Halifax One credit card which was 0% for 9 months and expires on 1st March. I called them and asked if they were prepared to extend it and they said no.

I have today signed up for a dual 9 months 0% with HSBC Gold - ie balance transfers and spending at 0% until 1st September 2005

My One card 9 month deal has just expired also, however on a visit to the BOS for someother routine business they managed to persuade :-)) me to take their charity card which is also at 0% for balances and purchases for another 9 months plus £20 goes to cancer research .You cant transfer between BOS/Halifax cards though although if you bounce it via Egg or MBNA it ends up in the right place anyway

My existing MBNA deal also expires next week but they have already been on the phone offering me another 10K at 1.9% till July (6 months)
How do they make money? I've had 2 X 9 months @ 0% and now another 6 months at 1.9

You can't move it directly. The theory is that you are meant to be doing a balance transfer to pay off debts, not paying it straight into a savings account.

Log in then on the left you will see "Move Money". Select "Balance Transfers" and then "Current Account/overdraft". Enter you bank details.

Once you have the money in your bank account you can move it on to pay for debts, put in a savings account or whatever you want.
