I've asked M&S several times what the best balance transfer rate is they can offer me and the best is still 9.9% for 6 months for me.
What am I doing wrong?0 -
W1zz wrote:I just recieved these cheques from Halifax patchman - The day after I phoned them up to cancel the CC.
When asked why, I gave the usual 'non competative rate' - To which she asked what I thought was compentative. I answered "3.9% Life balance transfer or 0% for 9 months".
I seem to remember seeing that on the 6.9% Halifax cheques/letter it mentions a purchase rate of 25.9%(ish) which I found strange cos the my purchse APR was approx 15%. Can't be sure cos they're now shreaded.
W1zz- the letter from the Halifax says that if the cheques are used after 17 June then their 'standard cheque rate' of 21.9% will apply, what a swizz !! To give them credit the stub next to cheques does state that the 6.9% rate is only valid until this date. I've stuck them in a cupboard as I've still got a few weeks to ponder their use, but on the 18th June they will be saying hello to my shredder!0 -
Patchman,
I have had 2 cheques with similar conditions from Bank of Scotland i.e. 6.9% APR – Must use by 17.06.05 or else the rate will change to 21.9%.
Like you I am considering shredding them, since there are better BT rates on offer at the moment for me.Charles J0 -
I took 9 month MBNA 0% card which expired Aug 2004. As soon as I transferred the balance THEY phoned me to ask if I'd like a further 0% until Jan 05 - I said yes pls! In Jan (when I transferred again) they phoned to offer me a loan at 8.9% which I obviously declined - shortly afterwards they phoned again to offer me 1.9% until Aug 2005. This time there was a fee, but the deal was still worth doing. I wonder if they'll ring again!0

Martin thanks I have just phoned barclays and they offered me 5.9% for the life of my balances which was better than the 6.9% you mention Thanks  :j0

I've just finished arguing with M&S!
I called to query what rate they would give me for a BT and was told 0% for 6 months so I asked to transfer from my Cap1 account. Unfortunately I didn't have my M&S card to hand, just my statements which weren't enough as they needed card details. Nice Indian call centre lady offered to hold on whilst I got my card but as it was packed away in a file somewhere, I said I would call back in 10 minutes. I also asked if there was any reference number I needed to quote to ensure the 0% rate was used and was told no, nothing was needed.
I found card quickly and called back within 5 mins but was then told rate was 9.9%! Queried with Supervisor and lady in Chester who all say that is the correct rate. Not happy to say the least.
They are going to listen to the recording made of my original call where I was told 0% and then take it from there. It'll be a few days before they get in touch with the outcome.
Moral of the story: be organised and have all the info you require at hand and if offered a good rate, take it there and then - don't assume it will still be on the go the next time you call!Herman - MP for all!0 -
MBNA's Indian call centre rang me a few days ago offering 6 months @ 1.9% + £35 max transfer fee. I was in the middle of eating but they wanted to call back so presumably this is not a once only offer.

ks62uk, was your MBNA card clear before they offered you that, or did it have a balance on it?0
-
a/c is clear but only £500 limit after they "reassessed" my credit limit from £5500 last month.

Would they have credit checked you in order to reduce your credit limit?0
